has anyone buyed this apu? has anyone used it?
Some people have but really think 7850K isn't a very good value. The 6800K is still a much better deal.
Really it would be best to buy an Athlon 760k and pair it with a lower end GPU like a 750 Ti or R7 265.
how would it work as far as video editing?
crap.
I still dont see the point of the new kaveri´s honnestly. not for theire price point. as a full apu system, it will not perform bad for the casual tasks, but for gaming or video editing, you just need better gpu and cpu power. just my opinnion.
basically.
some games will offcourse be very well playable on the kaveri with a dedicated gpu, but yeah, then you need to ask your self what is the point of paying that much for the kaveri, wenn you not gonne use its apu? then you can basicly also grab the cheap ass athlon 760k
This guy seems to be impressed by it as a cheap gaming build (but not much else):

The HSA enabled Kaveri APU outperforms any processor out there (including an i7) given the right applications.
Of course, Windows users will never get to see the advantages of Kaveri HSA. AMD will probably be on the second or even third generation of HSA chips when Windows decides to implement HSA.
It is decent for a cheap gaming build yes but it is too expensive. The 6800k is only a bit slower and cheaper and a 760k and a cheap GPU will easily beat the 7850K for the same or less.
Yeah no HSA. Sadlyfe.

The flagship 7850K delivers gaming performance on par with a 760K + an $80-90 GPU. So it is actually priced accordingly.
The high-end APUs do have their uses in specific situations. If you have a need for a very small form factor PC with no room for a GPU and you still need decent graphics horsepower, there simply is no equal. If someone wants a basic PC with some light gaming capabilities, it's a good simple solution. If someone is on a very strict budget but wants to get into gaming, again, APUs offer a viable low-cost solution - though in that case, I wouldn't necessarily recommend they go with the most expensive APU.
It's very situation-dependent. It's easy for most of us to say "I don't get the point of an APU" because many of us are not in those situations where an APU might actually make sense.
So, before we go telling the OP to not bother with Kaveri or any APU, we should first find out more about his/her situation.
To the OP: I see you already have a fairly decent system with an FX-6300 and 7870. That will already be much better at video editing than any current Kaveri. Are you planning a new build for yourself or someone else?
Yes offcourse you got a good point about somebody´s situation.
Offcourse an apu is able to play some games, at low/mid settings, Or if you only use your system for basic office stuff, surfing the internet, and watching youtube. for those basic tasks an APU offcourse delivers plenty of power.
there is 2 builds right now . 1 is my current build that was upgraded with asus sabertooth 990fx. i am still waiting to buy the fx 8350 and water cooler.
a 2nd build is with the kavari. i wanted it for a few reasons.
1. future proofing. i am not sure the direction of the cpu at this point, and all the talk of openCL and hsa have made me worried.
2. moving over seas and wanted something that would not take so meny parts to take with me.
3. i do find this apu interesting.
nice build man. how is it working for you now?
