this is good news, we need s strong AMD to compete
AMD's gain in the desktop graphics card market was 1.8%, up to 22.7% of the market, while the notebook discrete graphics share jumped an astounding 7.3% to 38.7% of the total market.
NVIDIA obviously still has a commanding lead in desktop add-in cards with more than 75% of the market, but Mercury Research believes that a renewed focus on driver development, virtual reality and the creation of the Radeon Technologies Group attributed to the increases in share for AMD.
Whilst small this is good news, I dread the day when Intel is the only x86 CPU supplier and Nvidia is considered the only GPU alternative to built-in Intel.
A lot can change within 1 or 2 generations of cards/CPU's it would be nice when we are closer to a 50/50 split of the market again.
There we go... Now polaris being aimed towards mobile devices, we may see even larger mobile share from AMD ... Now let's see if we are going to see larger numbers in desktop. I am really counting on Polaris to hoover everything and leave Nvidia with 1080 only...
