I have a brand-new Formula Z Motherboard and an old 9590 and an “open box” 8350.
I’ve not seen people running PFSense on these buff-boys. Is this a reliable base for PFSense?
The 9590 supports AES, so should work fine.
The more practical reason you don’t see more people using them is because, if you pay for your own electricity, upgrading to a more efficient device has a lower total cost of ownership.
The power draw on those things is attrocious, and they’re not a good value from a performance/watt perspective.

Great mention on the electricity, as I haven’t paid for electricity in 8 years. That doesn’t mean I’ll never pay for electricity though. I think what I’ll do is have two builds and utilize this one for learning and eventually move to a smaller more efficient build w/ ECC.
