AMD FX 8350 or Xeon 1230?

Yeah man, would be ideal for virtualization and heavy multitasking. I've also considered getting the 4790K if I saved up some money. I'd be looking at $400 worth of hardware though, pre-owned at that. Not totally sure what I'm doing yet. I'm completely open for suggestions, that's why I cam here lol

4970k is better but clearly out of budget.

Xeon will be faster at rendering.  You just need to make sure you have a compatible motherboard for virtualization w/ the xeon.

Stay away from the FX9370 and 9590. Over priced and usually run hot at a stock 220watts. The FX8320 or 8350 are much cheaper and can be easily overclocked to the same performance of the FX9590. At an easy 4.8ghz my FX8320 matches a FX9590. For what you want out of this PC with multitasking and virtualization the FX8320 or 8350 will work great and even better if you get a decent cooler (cooler master evo 212) and overclock it a bit. The FX8320 can usually be overclocked to 4.0ghz without changing the voltage or running any hotter and then yoi have a FX8350. Far as heat I've had a FX6300 and FX8320 and neither has run more than 1 or 2c hotter than my Intel machine. On your budget the mentioned above Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0 motherboard a great board for the price and works very well with the FX processors and virtualization. Some days I run 2 virtual machines through virtual box on my FX8320 and leave them open in the back ground while I play games.

FX-8350s, FX-9370, FX-9590 are all overclocked FX-8320s.  Of course, the higher end are better pieces that can manage fast clockspeeds, but I wouldn't buy anything past a FX-8350 since the heat output is ridiculous.

yes like i said FX8350 or FX8320 are realy decent cpu´s for virtualization, i use one my self aswell ☺

I think overall the FX8320 or FX8350 would be the best bett for op. FX is even better for virtualization then the i7-4790k

I think I'll just settle with the 8350 and slap in an SSD with spare money. Thanks for the info everyone.

just to add my 2c
my 8350 over clocked to that of the 9590 outperforms the 9590
not 100% sure why but yeah
defiantly do not see the need to get the 9000 series when the 8350 crushes it

Its funny that the fx8350 @ 5.0ghz does beat out the fx9590 every time at a lower wattage and temp.
