AMD Fx-8350 or AMD Fx-8250

So I need to make a decision, and it would be great it anyone could help me out. Should I go with the AMD Fx-8350 8-Core processor Black Edition or should i go with the AMD Fx-8320 8-core processor? I don't see any major difference other than the GHz being slightly more on the Black Edition than on the regular edition. Should I cough up and extra $30 USD and go with the 8350 or save the $30 and go with the 8250?

You can use that extra $30 elsewhere like an aftermarket cooler.
8320+Hyper 212 > 8350+stock cooler

There isn't that much difference. Honestly, I would likely just pocket it and be happy.

Regardless, what are you using it for? It most things, getting a locked i5 and a cheap H97 or something would be a better choice. Though an 8320 is not a bad choice by any means.

Thanks man!! I am actually planning on building a gaming pc. Kinda going on a budget build as well which is why im going with the AMD.

If you haven't bought anything yet, I would recommend that you look at something like a 4460 and a cheap 1150 mobo instead of the AMD. It can cost just as much as the AMD combo depending on the mobo that you go with on the AMD side. Like I said earlier though, either will work well enough in most applications. You could be looking at some bottlenecking once you get to higher end gpus.

So this would be a better route?

What is the mobo that you would use with the 8320 or 8350? Even for going cheap on the mobo, $50 is still pretty damn cheap. My first instinct is that it should work just fine so long as it has all of the ports and things that you need (ie usb, sata, front panel headers), and with a locked processor, you shouldn't really need anything fancy anyway so yeah it should work. However, I would like to try to find something a bit better so long as it fits in the price range that you want to spend. So how much are you planning to spend on the combo and what mobo were you looking at for the AMD side?

This is the motherboard for the AMD. And i also found that there's a 3 item bundle.

The bundle includes the AMD 6300 (6 core), the mobo listed above, and 8 GB RAM.
Im willing to spend $650-$725 on the PC.

$650 for the whole thing? What else are you looking at getting? I can through together a whole pc for that price range if you want.

Here. I threw something together for you. This should be able to max most games at 1080p (barring GTAV, Crysis 3, and Witcher 3 but those get damn close for the price). Has an ssd for fast storage, but can easily be swapped out for an hdd if you would prefer more storage (or in addition if you don't mind the extra cost). No frills mobo, very competent cpu and a strong gpu with plenty of vram, solid psu and a no frills case.

Thanks man. You went above and beyond and even put together an entire list of parts. This saves me time and thanks again for your help.

You are welcome, man.
You will find that the people on this forum are often very helpful. I didn't do anything that dozens of others on here wouldn't have done as well. Start another thread if you need help on anything else in the future.

i agree with @1920_1080p_1280_720p

I use a FX8350 my self for about 3 years, and i can tell you.
If you can afford a haswell i5, even a locked one, will be a better allround chip for gaming.

And it can even be a cheaper option in some cases.
Because with a FX 8 core, you dont wanne cheap out on a mobo, otherwise you will get dissapointed, and next to that, you also need a good cooling solution to keep them cool.

a locked i5 can be paired with a cheap H97 board, and you can easaly use the stock cooler.
Which simply saves some money.

I disagree with @1920_1080p_1280_720p -- get the 8250 and a cooler.

Any reason why? Think he needs a space heater and lower frame rates? (Obviously exaggeration, but the 8xxx does uses more power)

Because more cores is better for many things these days.

Well thats not totaly the correct picture realy.

Sure, there are shades of meaning to everything. Notice "better" "many" instead of "perfect" "every".

Care to prove how the 8350 is a better choice than the 4460 for gaming? I already gave some good evidence to the contrary so right now your side of the argument has no evidence. I guess we can either take your word of theoretic "better" performance for the 8350, or the numbers taht I've presented which show better performance for the 4460.

I'm suggesting it based on big picture, not gaming specifically.

Additionally, I think it's short sighted to pick a CPU based on gaming performance. You can use your machine for so much more. GPU, of course. CPU, no.

If I were to be you, depending on your budget and what games you are going to be playing. If you are going to be playing Arma, I'd go with intel, but are you willing to put out the extra cash? For the same price as getting an i5 4460 you could get an 8350 and 212 evo. Or you could lower the price and go with a 8320 and 212 evo. If you are not planning on playing Arma, or if you are and don't care about getting the worlds greatest FPS on servers, go with the 8320. The reason why I'm so focused on Arma is because it loves single threads. Me, even though I love Arma, I'd go with AMD, I need the cores, and the price that the cheapest o5 comes at, and I'd need to get a shit mobo to keep the price down on intel, AMD would be for me.
