That realy has nothing to do with Haswell-E @Streetguru exaly gives you some good advice. At that budget you have, and for the workloads you are looking at. You should realy concider to go with the 5820K 6 core 12 threads cpu at that budget. It will realy do allot better.
Also for blender rendering, Nvidia card will most likely render faster due Cuda engine. Unless Blender has kept up with Open CL support nowdays?
Actually over the last year Blender OpenCL support has improved massively. You actually get better performance out of cards like the 390 and 390x than you do even high end cards like the Titan X or 980TI. The compute performance is significantly better on AMD. Something like a Fury X would pretty much dominate anything out there since its compute performance is pretty much the best there is in a single GPU.
I'm somewhat bias with open standard software but I feel overall OpenCL is actually quite alot better than CUDA in a few ways and it will just get better with time.
Yeah, the compute performance of the Radeon's is ridiculous, Fiji XT being capable of 8+ TFLOPS. Nvidia has been focusing more on the gaming performance with Kepler and Maxwell..
Strictly talking, using the actual numbers the OC'd Titan X should rape the OC'd 390X, calculated FP32 being a third more with the Titan X. But it's a completely different story how well you can utilize it!
But even to this date, if you need double precision, the original Titan or Titan Black are the best. They're just insane in that. Can't even argue that with the FP64 being 1/3 of FP32 on those GK110's. Of course 780/780 Ti are FP64 = 1/24 FP32. Aaand now Maxwell's are 1/32.. But the situations when you would need it, well, unless you're like simulating a solar system and whatnot, you don't really need that precision in this kind of blender stuff :D
I don't if, I going to kept all my video game play footage of Garrymod13 / SFM Footage , and other video games let play, Illustrator artwork , Photoshop artwork , 3D , documents. Images, music, movies, sessson shows and sound effects.
And don't know can down size every file media type into a 500GB or 1TB drives also have plans to back my data as well. and save on blueray DVDs and USB drives too. Not delete old art or experiment art work so often as well.
As much as I like the FX chips (own one myself) in a 3k build I really feel they just aren't good enough when compared to Intel parts. Once Zen comes along stuff with undoubtedly change but until that point AMD doesn't have a good very high end chip to compete with the intel 5xxx and even the 4xxx series.
The 8350 will run a bit slower than a 3960x stock for stock. Fortunately from what I can see the workloads you will be undertaking aren't very CPU dependant. I suppose if you really wanted you could use an 8350 until such a time as Zen comes out, but I wouldn't really recommend this.
The furyx2 will be released some time in the next 4-5 months. we are expecting zen to launch around November. paper launch of zen is propably going to be October . parts will be in stores early November this is a best guess going off of what little info we have.
@Khristian4444 I upgraded from a 6350 to a 5930K and saw HUGE improvements in the workload area. It's a big step up. if you're dropping 2K+ on a build you should NOT be getting a FX part, they're good for the tight budget
As someone who owns an enthusiast-level AMD based system, I understand that your reasons for not choosing an Intel platform might be your own, and if you're willing to accept performance compromises and building around a ~5 year old platform then that's your choice.
That being said, I think you'd be better served by removing one of those SSDs and one of those HDDs and using that money elsewhere. I'd take the money saved there and use it to move up to DDR3-1866, and go Fury X over the Nano. You can always add storage later on, so I wouldn't compromise on more important system parts for the sake of having a ton of storage.
double the cost for more than double the performance? No brainer, that AND you have plenty of places in your build where you dont need to spend as much as you allocated
