AMD drivers blow away Nvidia cards with 12% to 90% better fps

Been using these drivers since they were released. People need to stop saying that AMD cannot do drivers. They finnaly have done it. The only release drivers when it really works now. I will never trade my 7970 for a 680. AMD all the way.

going to benchmark some games on my laptop (A6 + dedicated) and do a before / after. :)

ooh, linux drivers, now, if only the game would run w/o wine

Nice. Getting my 7870 tonight so I'll make sure to use the beta drivers. Will be cool to see that before/after too ztrain!

not sure what improvement there will be as the apu and dedicated are 6xxx. but it will be interesting. testing on 12.8 beta atm.

do these driver work on windows server, anyone know?

I still dont regret buying a 670, but credit where it is due, good job AMD.

Now fix the issues on the processing side of things and you're golden.

all testing done with the following catalyst settings, fps recorded in fraps:

  • AA: application, no morphological filtering
  • AF: application
  • Tessilation: amd optimized
  • texture filtering: high quality with surface optimization
  • no vsync
  • AA mode is super sample.

  • gpus: 6520g (apu A6 OCed to 2.2ghz) + 6720m

driver:12.8

  • bordarlands 2 (max settings, 16x af)
  • min 29, max 39, avg 33.4.
  • skyrim (aa: 2x, af: 2x, reflect all, max view distance, high texture, decal, distant object, medium radial blur and shadow, no fxaa as ssaa is being forced in drivers)
  • outdoor combat + nature walk: min:28, max:52, avg:37.0
  • indoor combat: min:39, max:62, avg:51.0

driver 12.11 beta (with enableulps changed to 0 in regedit)

  • bordarlands 2 (max settings, 16x af)
  • min 26, max 37, avg 31.8
  • skyrim (aa: 2x, af: 2x, reflect all, max view distance, high texture, decal, distant object, medium radial blur and shadow, no fxaa as ssaa is being forced in drivers)
  • outdoor combat + nature walk: min:29, max:58, avg:37.1
  • indoor combat: min:36, max:63, avg:52.6

no large difference uing 6xxx series (which supports the driver description on the amd website). i would stick with 12.8 non beta if you have not updated yet.

Well, which are you refering to? There are a handful of things they could sink their effort into but not many that would really pay off.

If your talking about the enthusiest market, I'm not really sure AMD is even interested in it, I don't honestly expect AMD to start coming out with $350-$1000 consumer CPU any time soon.

If your talking single core performance, well, they are working at it, their price point with the FX6300/4300 have knocked the i3 off the pvp scale, though it has left the i5 without much single core competition, though in heavily threaded applications the FX 8xxx chips compete closesly with Intel's $320 chips, for less than a third of the price.

Oh geez, you should see the L3 cache, that thing is almost uselessly slow :s

But many argue that L3 cache is more or less useless anyways.

big problem is cache latency in the l2... they have 4x as much l2 per core as intel does, but it's freakin slow....

edit: the L3 latency is atrocious as well.... double intel's latency

they also argue that the 8350 is beat out by the pentuim.... while the 8350 isn't what we hoped for, it's not THAT bad.... but the heat generation and the low tjmax drove me away.... going with a more... tradtional rig... i5-3570k, mobo made for overclocking, amd 7970 for graphics....

if I was a proffesional video editor or something like that, i'd prolly go with the 8350 at stock. but, i'm not, so I won't...

AMD did hire back the guy who helped create those awesome Athlons back in the day, so I have my hopes for AMD.

Yeah now Nvidia will step up their game and we as the community will win

lets just hope AMD processors have the same boost so intel well have to do well erm something

Well, to me those are still ATI graphics cards. Just because AMD owns that company or merged with it or whatever else they did doesn´t mean that it´s AMD´s work.

Also if they can produce their GPU chips at 28 nm why haven´t they done so with the Bulldozer or at least Piledriver to begin with? I don´t understand this.

The latest Nvidia beta Drivers (Needed for COD Black Ops 2) lose performance by 5-10%+ on my gtx 285's on most other games.
