AMD CPUs

does any one else think that a big part of AMD's issue with there CPUs is how they market them?

I personally dont relly know anything about AMD CPU's but everytime I look into them it just makes no sense to me

the great thing with intel is there is a clear structure

atom
i3
i5
i7
i7 extreme
xeon

Although I appreciate it isnt as simple as the above always but you get the idea...

but with AMD it doesn't seem to have this structure (although feel free to tell me i'm wrong as again i really know little about AMD cpu's)

for example AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor and its like £80 in the UK??

Like an 8 core for that cheap it just confuses me my intel 5820k 6 core was £350, is it a case that there 8 core is just not up to scratch compared to Intel?

Can someone educate me a bit on AMD and the structure of their CPUS?

desktop APUs
A4-xxxxx
A6-xxxxx
A8-xxxxx
A10-xxxxx

desktop CPUs
FX-4xxx
FX-6xxx
FX-8xxx
FX-9xxx

server CPUs
opteron what-so-ever ...

Would you put a lowcost Vauxhall in the same category as a Porsche GT3 RS in a perfomance benchmark?

well its a desktop 8 core? and so is the corresponding x99 chip?

Hmm i re-word: Would you expect the same race-track performance from a 30.000$ race care compared to a 300.000$ racecar, although both have a V8 engine?

There is also the celeron and Pentium in there. Also the core m.

Also i believe that both atom have a similar x3,x5,x7 model now. so did the xeons.

Well thats what I am asking, why are they not more similar, I dont know the specific intricacies of making a processor but is the performance really that different between two 8 cores?

Again I am just asking as I said, i literally dont know about AMD

Agreed, was justing giving a basic outline

I think the problem why nobody know amd lineup is they haven put out anything worth talking about for a long time.

Yes they made the new apu's but nobody talks about the 4 door sedans they talk about supercars.

Yeah I agree,

obviously there is a clear line up of them as has been showed to me, I guess due to my reative young age i havent really been presented with a complete fresh lineup of AMD products (even their GPUs) so thats probably why im confused

YES.
Intel markets really well.
However, they charge their customers more so they can pay for shady shit. AMD, or any company, honestly could whittle away at that by investing in suing in regards to anti-competitive practices.

Intel markets extremely well plus they have a big performance advantage, and AMD doesn't have processors that are competitive with intel in any space but the lowest of the low end. That's the best summary I can give of the competition right now.

They generally have the first number in the Cue denote the number of CPU cores. In the case of the APUS its the number of GPU compute cores I think. Its relatively straight forward. I think Intel is a little bit more confusing with their SKUs
