Alright so i posted eairly this month about a pc ill be putting together. Some of you guys told me to go with ab 8350 instead of a 3570k. So i did this, but now im stuck on the AMD motherborads.
1. Whats the difference between a 990fx chipset and 970?
2. Is the Asrock 970 Extreme 4 a good mb, able to overclock an 8350 up to about 4.5?
3. Is it worth saving a little more to grab a gigabyte 990fx-ud3?
Thanks for the help in advance, you guys rock!
the main diffrence between a 990fx and 970 chipset is the crossfire and sli support, also most 990fx chipset boards have better powerphase designs and better feutures.
The Asrock 970 Extreme 4 is not a good mobo for the FX8350 cpu to overclock, this board has only a 4+1 powerphase and low quality vrm´s, i would say stay away from that board.its just not made for overclocking, a FX8350
The Gigabyte GA-990FXA-ud3 is also not a great motherboard, wenn it comes to overclocking, this board has problems with overheating northbridge chip, and vrm´s, that causes voltage throtteling, and unstable overclocks.. also the bios is not that great, i would also say to stay away from this board. if you plan to overclock a FX8350 on it.
I would recommend a Asus board, if you can afford a sabertooth 990FX R2.0 this is realy a great board. 8+2 powerphase and digi vrm's.
Also a great board would be the Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 6+2 powerphase and digi vrm´s, but capable to easy overclock a FX8350 to 4.8 ghz without anny problems.
if those boards are too expensive for you, then look to the Asus M5A99X evo R2.0 this board is the same as the PRO only it hass les pci-e lanes 20 instead of 40 with the pro version, this makes this board not realy a good board for multiple gpu setups, but if you stay with a single gpu. then it doesnt matter..
