Okay so yesterday I picked up a cheap £300 laptop, I got it for light gaming and programming for when I am away from home, but the RAM inside I suspect will be low speed, The laptop is an ASUS X552E, yes I know its not the best laptop but it does for the stuff I wish to play, so would adding 8GB RAM at 1600 or even 1866Mhz work in this if so any performance benefits for it?
A ram upgrade would/could be beneficial. These benefits would be mostly noticed in gaming and possibly in your programming depending on what you're doing. There are two different models that start with X552E. One ends in A and the other ends in P. It is an important distinction because on one of those models one of the two sticks of ram is soldered to the mobo.
I have the X552EA model, it has 1 Dimm slot free so I believe the max I can run with is 12GB, but I don't really like running two separate models, such as 4GB and 8GB, more for problem causing than anything else.
Does anyone know the PC3- number? strange how there is no number about for it :S
Its a laptop and you NEED to check if you have the ability to change ram values/xmp /amp profiles in the bios before spending anything on high speed ram 9 times out of ten laptop bioses are nerfed and locked down so you cant change anything outher than the amount of ram given to the IGPU.
I cant change anything to do with the settings :( I can change boot device and set a password thats it, so what would you suggest? I cant even dedicate more memory to my iGPU, which is a bit meh.
It says that max support is 1600Mhz so should I just get 4GB 1600Mhz? or go for 8GB?
I didn't get the laptop for gaming really, for programming, its just nice to have a bit more power for when I need it.
