I have a cpu on a computer that is an socket AM2 and was looking to replace it. Is it possible to put a socket FM2 in it's place?
No. AM2 and FM2 are two completely different sockets. the FM2 sockets are for the APU's from AMD
I'm pretty sure they're completely different, but I'm sure I heard somewhere that AM3 processors are backwards compatible with AM2, don't quote me on that, I could be horribly wrong.
EDIT: I had a read on teh interwebz, and it seems that AM3/AM3+ processors are backwards compatible with MOST AM2+ motherboards, but not AM2.
