First off I am building a new computer and plan on using the AMD FX-6300 and a GTX 660. I am having trouble looking for a motherboard.
I am looking for a motherboard that will work with both of these components, has USB 3.0, i would like it to have a UFEI BIOS / somesort of overclocking program (I have never fully built a computer and it seems like it would be easier for me to setup), and capable of using faster RAM 1866 +.
I have a budget for of about $120 for a board (but if I could save some money on the board that would be great)
I was considering:
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
or
MSI 990FXA-GD65V2 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
or
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
also
The video cards I have been looking at say PCI Express 3.0 x16 and most of the motherboards I have looked at say PCI Express 2.0 x16. Is this going to be a problem?
No, it won't. Graphics cards still don't take full advantage of PCI-E 2.0 bandwidth. The only difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is that PCI-E 3.0 has double the bandwidth as 2.0 does. PCI-E 3.0 just adds more bandwidth that the graphics card won't be able to utilize. It shouldn't affect the card's performance at all.
Just as an FYI that isnt true. I had a pci e 2.0 motherboard from asus AMD chipset basic quad core, with a gtx 760 in it i got decent fps in bf4 on ultra. I went to an MSI 3.0 pci express board and gained maybe 5 or so frames per second, when i went Dual gtx 760 i saw another jump to around 120fps max this was in dual 8x 3.0. When i migrated to an asus z 87-ws dual x16 pci e 3.0 board i had a gain of like 5-10 fps in game (non averaged). unfortunately all i have links for are the pics of the dual gpu setups. Im not saying they are using the full breadth of bandwidth available, but they definitely benefit from the updated drivers, support and power that comes from the pci e x16 3.0 slots.
