AM3+ Motherboard help!

Hello! I am planning a build using AMDs FX 8350 processor, I have decided the rest of the components but I am having issues picking the motherboard for the build.

I am thinking of going with either MSI's cheap 760GA-P43 or 760G-P43 motherboard.

Then, later, when either Gigabytes GA-990FXA-UD3 revision 3.0 or ASUS's Sabertooth 990FX/Gen3 (PCI 3.0) motherboard comes to Norway, get one of those.

But MSI's cheap-o motherboards look like they might eat my CPU, would I be better off just getting the current revision Gigabyte board (I can chose between 1.0 and 1.2) or ASUS's current Sabertooth board?

The other components are: Samsung 840 250GB, Kingston Beast 2400Mhz 8GB, MSI 7950 OC BE, XFX ProSeries 650W modular, NZXT Source 210 Elite, Be-Quiet Shadow Rock Pro, FX 8350 and some random harddrive.

I sure hope you guys can help me make this decision C:

Why should you wait till gen 3 boards?

only big diffrence is the pci-3  3.0 but thats only a higher number, if you using your pc mainaley for gaming, then it doesnt matter if you have pci 2.0 or 3.0, cause games dont use the full bandwidth of pci-e 2.0 yet.

but if you  want a gen 3 board, and you need a cheap board for now, then better pick the msi- 970A GD43 or so cause those other 760 boards have max tdp of 95 watts and the FX8350 needs 125 Watts

Okay, that sounds reasonable, and that board looks less likely to eat my processor.

That board also had an UEFI BIOS which is what I was after, PCI 3.0 doesn't really interest me, but what is the difference between f.ex. the 920 chipset and the 990FX chipset?

you mean 970 chipset and 990FX

as far as i know the main diffrence is the support for sli.

Most 970 chipset mainboards don´t support sli setups. only crossfire, but msi claim on their website that the 970A GD 43 or so if im right out of my head,  does support sli.

but i realy dont believe that.

and 990 FX chipsets mostly a bit better with overclocking, but thats more dependin on the power phase of the mainboard.

pci-x 2.0 x16  bandwidth 16GB/s  pci-x 3.0 x16 32GB/s bandwidth.

thats the main diffrence between pci-e

but if you are looking for a nice  990FX board.

i could advice the Asus M5A99FX pro rev 2.0 the board logan used in his movie oc movies vs i7 3770k

I can't find the "msi- 970A GD43" anywhere, did you mean the 970A-G43?

If that one can deliver 125W for my FX 8350 then that is what I am going with!

-Though in the CPU Support list on MSIs website, they don't list the FX 8350 as compatible, only the 8320 and below..

The ASRock 970 Extreme 4 is the best 970 chipset board for the price IF you aren't overclocking. If you won't to OC, the only good board to do so with that is a 970 chipset is the GA-970A-UD3.

If you want to bump up a notch, head for the 990FX chipset. I really want to recommend my GA-990FX-UD3 but I have a hard time doing so when mine is messed up. If my replacement actually works how it's supposed to, then I'd be comfortable recommending it to you.

You might even want to try the new asrock 990fx extreme 9 if it is available in your region.

I'm using a Sabretooth 990FX R1 and I'm loving it so far a lot of features and easy overclocking.

How is the Extreme 3 VS the Extreme 4? The color scheme on the 4 is a bit off :)

How do they stack up to an MSI 970A-G43?

MSI 970A-G43

Yea, it is avaliable, but it is currently a bit pricy :)

Okey, so what are you guys's thoughts on the 970A-G43? Good to go or not?

As long as it works I am satisfied, I won't be clocking :)

Wouldn't really be my choice. I'd be going for an ASRock, personally. I haven't had too much experience with MSI except for in my friend's build. It is serving him well, though.

sorry for my late reaction

yes i ment the Msi-970A-GD43./ Msi-970A-GD45

That bord does have 2 pci-e x16 2.0 slots.  so you can eaven run a crossfire on it.

and on the msi site they clame the support of sli to this board, but i dont believe id, the only ugly part of the board, is that com port on the back, but if thats no matter, then it looks like a very nice mainboard espacialy for the price, its realy basic as it comes to fuetures, gigbit lan some usb 2.0 ports ps2 port and 2  usb 3.0 ports and thats it :)

^Incorrect. only one of the slots runs at x16 speeds. That is one of the main limitations of the 970 chipset.

The 970 Extreme 4 is a little pricier but is FEATURE PACKED. It supports SLI and xfire at x8 speeds (tested with SLI and xfire and works for both) and has all the options you will ever want from life, except an 8+2 power phase, but since you aren't even overclocking, that won't be an issue.

I am really confused now, I can't find any motherboards with a -GD43, only -G43.

And the FX 8350 is not listed as compatible, though every other Vishera processor is, though I have been tracking some other MSI motherboards and hey seem to add processor by processor to the list. So I think I might just order it and see what happens..

Are you even reading my posts? Don't order a low end motherboard for a high end processor. I just said "Get an 970 Extreme 4." You're going to spend extra money but end up realizing in the end that it's a good thing that you did. Don't order junk.

strange in the netherlands it calles GD43

by the way  the asus M5A97 rev 2.0 isnt a option ?

I am, and I asked "How is the Extreme 3 VS the Extreme 4? The color scheme on the 4 is a bit off :)"

I am going for a black system, and white and blue slots don't quite fit in :)

The extreme4 has an onboard USB 3.0 header, as well as dual x8 speeds for SLI and xfire setups. there's also better sata placement, as well as more fan headers, and a few other nifty little extras. I'd shoot for the extreme4. The color might be "off" but it's everything you need, and the color will still fit in. I had it in a system myself.
