AM3+ Mini ITX/Micro ATX

My friend currently has a fx 8350 on a M5A99X Pro housed in a Corsair Carbide 300r Windowed. He has now moved to a new office (in his home) and there isn't any space for his case and he was wandering if he should wait for AM3+ Mini ITX/Micro ATX motherboards to come out or buy a cheap, crappy M5A78L-M/USB 3.0 housed in a Bitfenix Phenom M (he wants a good looking case.)

The question I have is, will there be a Mini iTX/Micro ATX variants for the AM3+ socket or will it always be good ATX options and cheap, crappy Micro ATX options? If there will be a Mini ITX/Micro ATX, when will it be hitting the European (England) market, will it be this year?

Thanks in advance.

short ansewr NO, for an FX8350 there is no good m-atx availeble, because this 8 core cpu, is to power hungry.

Min-itx AM3+ options just dont exists. If he want´s mini-itx, then he needs to jump to intel for similar performance.

Grtz Angel☺

Oh, O.K I'll move to a Intel option.

it's a dead socket, what we have is what we have, and what we have is atx and burning bakelite that used to be a smaller motherboard

unfortunatly thats gonne probably be the best option. if a normal ATX tower or desktop is just to big.

where he´s gonne use his computer for mainely?

Do NOT put a 8350 in that motherboard. You are asking for a bomb by doing that. AM3+ is stuck to ATX boards if you want a quality board. With AM4 possible next year I wouldn't expect any new AM3+ boards any more. Intel or FM2+ is the only safe way to do Itx or Matx. Going with a Intel 1150 Xeon and a good motherboard is probably the best rout. He'd probably have to sell the 8350 and motherboard but it would work great. AM4 may bring smaller options to Fx processors but right now there are no

Intel or Kaveri. If you want to go small.

Not to hijack, but where did you here about AM4? I thought all of those rumors were proven false. AMD themselves have even said in press releases and their roadmaps that for the foreseeable future we'll have FM2+ and AM3+. They are going the way of the APU. I really doubt we'll ever get AM4...

Well AM4 is going to come at some point just dont expect it for years yet FM2+ is all AMD has plans for these comeing 12/18mths

Just sharing my experience, we have a VM-server at work that I built. It has a 8350 on a Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 with 32 GB of ECC RAM (unbuffered). It has been stable for almost a year now, running 24/7.

I cut up an old copper heatsink and taped (Akasa thermal tape)it to the mosfets, as I found it could not run at 4 GHz for a prolonged time while Folding. Also turned off Turbo in BIOS as it would make it clock down the CPU, the APM on that board works very well and it will not overheat the mosfets on the board. You can not turn off APM in BIOS, so without my home made heat sinks it would clock down the CPU under prolonged folding/prime load. I don't think the 8350 we got was a good sample, I tried a little overclocking and it did not clock well at all.

Our new in-house made site is running in on of the VM:s on that machine right now. It is all in swedish and about a local pub/restaurant so maybe not so interesting to you guys. If you ever visit Linköping Sweden, look us up :)

I've heard some good about Gigabyte's GA-78LMT-USB3 Rev 5.0 black PCB. Haven't tried it myself though, but if I was building a micro-ATX machine with an AM3+ CPU today, I would look into it.
