Am I not understanding RAM speed correctly?

EDIT: CPU doesn't support any more than 1600MHz.

EDIT: New problem: CPU idles at 60c in bois, 17c at desktop.....??

EDIT: found source of crashing problem.

Recently bought ddr3-2133 RAM, but I'm only seeing "max bandwidth: ddr3-1600 (800MHz)" in the bios. I was under the impression that drr3-2133 directly meant 2133MHz.

Hope this doesn't turn out too embarrassing for me...

highest ram speed a phenom II can handle is 1600.

From what I've read about the motherboard, it supports the memory speed. I'm guessing that your motherboard defaults to that speed, so you'll have to manually turn the speed up from the bios. I don't have much experience with your motherboard, so you should refer to you manual for that.

Or/ Edit: the last person said your cpu doesn't support it.

you have to overclock them max support is 1866mhz/1866+ as a over clock with that mobo allso phenom chips are native to 1333mhz the motherboardwill set ram to a stable mhz when you first put the ram in so the computer can boot

I didn't even think about CPU limitations, thanks. Where can I find this information for when I upgrade? pcpartpicker.com didn't catch this incompatibility, nor does it show the RAM limit in the CPU spec area.

http://www.amd.com/uk/products/desktop/processors/phenom-ii/Pages/phenom-ii-model-number-comparison.aspx

or http://www.cpu-world.com/ is a good place to find out about cpus

i am not shure how high you can oc ram with a Phenom but my old Phenom ii x 4 was running fine with 8gbs ddr3 1600mhz (i did have to oc them from 1333mhz)

I just turned on oc genie in the bios (eufi), and it set the mem clock to 1600, but I am occasionally crashing, so I'll try taking the mem clock back down to default when I get home. I'll post back here if it seems to help.

Looking at your bios screen shot it says your cpu is running at 60c thats very hot for ide speeds over heating can give you blue screens and crashing make shure your heatsink is on corretly

This is very, very strange. bios is stating that the temps are up to 60c, (and I can confirm by touch). But now, at the desktop, temps are as low as 17c (can't feel any heat at all.) speedfan screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/MRXhWJN.png

mobo drivers are up to date AFAIK. I downloaded them last month just before starting the build.

Your temps seam ok there but your fan is going crazy 3500rpm is max speed maybe its a good idea to change the thermal paste on the heatsink or get a aftermarket heatsink

I am for sure going to buy some thermal paste ASAP (and probably the 212 evo eventually). I have narrowed the crashing problem down to my wireless card's drivers. Unistalled and it's now working fine! Unfortunately, the most up-to-date drivers availible at their website is for vista updated at 2011 (I think). Is it possible to run drivers in compatibility mode? lol. Or should I just return the pos?
