I meant from the standpoint of a shelf being preloaded with drives -- you are right nothing special in wwn, but preloaded wwn usually is somewhat sequential? I thought it is somewhat based on my experience but maybe not.
Come to think of it, I can't recall any disk shelves I've used from dell/emc/equallogic/lsi since like 2010 that don't have a ton of info reported about disk location and placement. I'm p retty sure I've got some ancient X series FC shelves that even report slot #
It is open source, perhaps we can go check the source code and see what it actually does?
