Every time I try to run a game with POL the sound is staticy and scratchy. I have looked every where for a fix. But all I am finding is stuff from 2 years or more ago. I am running the lastest 15.04 ubuntu gnome and my POL version is 4.2.7. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I just had a similar experience with Battlefront 2 installed through steam.
I am using pulse audio in Ubuntu GNOME 15.04
My audio is coming from my hdmi output from my R9 290 with FGLRX installed.
Can you provide some more information about how you are outputting your audio.
I had a similar problem a week or so ago. I only use my usb headset, so I created a file ~/.asoundrc to set my headset as the default device for alsa. I also use pulseaudio so that I can have sound from multiple programs at once. When I was trying to play music on clementine and a game on playonlinux at the same time I would get crackling sound from playonlinux. When I only had playonlinux running the sound was fine. After some thread searching I discovered a program called pavucontrol which is a gui for pulseaudio that allows pulseaudio to set the default sound device instead of alsa. The way I understand the situation, pulseaudio is supposed to hijack alsa whenever sound tries to go through alsa, but my .asoundrc was keeping it from doing that. I moved the .asoundrc to a different location just to see what would happen and, viola, everything started working correctly.
I don't know what kind of sound architecture you are using, so I can't say for sure this is your problem. However, alsa is often the default for most linux distributions. If you have alsa and pulseaudio installed, I would first recommend looking for a .asoundrc file in your home directory. If it is there, move it somewhere else to see if it fixes your issue. If it doesn't, move it back.
Another issue can arise if you have a 64-bit version of Ubuntu. For sound in playonlinux to work properly with every game you might also need to install the 32-bit sound packages. (I use Arch linux and they are called lib32-libpulse and lib32-alsa-lib here. They are probably named something similar in the Ubuntu repositories)
Audio is going through USB into a laptop speaker. The rest of the sounds on the system are fine, videos music and websites are fine. just through POL.
