i'm looking to build my pc but..... i really like the alienware alpha R2, the specs are great for the i7 model and it's priced perfect and you can get 4k with amplifier, i was wondering if anybody owns one and like it or know about it.
Yeah, but that would be a lot extra for a card that can run games at 4k, plus another $200 just for the amp. You're really better off just building a custom rig.
I actually been building my own funny enough, although my CPU is a mere Athlon X4 845 and my GPU is going to be the R7 360 that has just been sitting there for months.
As for this no, I don't think the i7 is a good deal if the GPU is also weak
It might be worthwhile seeing if you can get a really, really cheap Alienware alpha steam machine direct from Dell. Ring them up and barter like mad. SteamOS is pretty much dead right now & the units have been around for 6 months. But they are fantastic little machines and they look great.
RRP was $500 but they came down to $450, then $400. If you can get one for $300 even with the i5 and swing 8gb of RAM that's an indie/arcade/streaming machine and it will still have an 870m which is 750ti level. The other plus side is they are smaller than an x360 controller and vesa mount on the back of a screen.
oh and they come with a Steam controller.
