Air cooling i5-4670K

Hi!

I'm looking for a solid air cooling unit for my intel 4670k. My goal is to at least OC it to around 4.2 - 4-4 GHz but have no idea what kind of cooling I need. I would say my budget is up to around $100. A big plus would also be that I don't need to install a back plate since this isn't a new build, and would prefer not to take everything apart. Any thoughts, what should I go for?

You're Boned Regardless, because MOST Air coolers, excluding Low-Profile. Come with a Backplate that have to be mounted. And the purpose of the Backplate is to keep the CPU cooler Ridged. However i Recommend the Noctua NH-D15 it's like $100 and it's arguably the best Tower-Cooler you can Get ahold of. performance wise it rivals the Corsair H110

I can vouch for the NH-D15 i have it too cool my 4670K in my system and no complaints, my cpu is currently oc'ed to 4.2 ghz at 1.2v and the temps max out on 60C

I can also vouch for the NH-D15, I'm using on my X99 rig right now but I had it on a 4790k before and it performed about the same as my H100i.

  • Cryorig R1
  • Phanteks PH-TC14PE
  • Akasa Venom Medusa
  • Noctua NH-D15

All four are more or less the same design and should work well.

Haha I guess NH-D15 is the way to go then! However is there any noticeable difference compared to the Phanteks PH-TC14PE? The NH-D15 is ugly as fuck

Typically within 1 to 2 degrees under max load:

In other news, I forgot the Thermaltake Silver Arrow exists. Another similar setup as the other ones I posted.

EDIT: I think MisteryAngel here on the forums uses the Phanteks on an FX something-or-rather?

EDIT2: Yep, she does.

Pretty much every aftermarket cooler has a backplate. You can't just screw the cooler to the motherboard...

Anyway, my recommendation is any one of the coolers wiemerimer mentioned.

and yeah, taking your build apart to change coolers sucks, but we have all done it, think of it as quality time with your pc internals.

Edit/addition: I have a CM Hyper Evo 212, and run my 4670K at 4.5 or 4.6 ghz in the winter, and 4.4 ghz in the summer, and its a 35 dollar cooler.

CM TX3 with a 92mm noctua fan is your best bet - uses the push pin design but the stock fan is shithouse. 4 - 4.2ghz should be doable with acceptable temps assuming you have half decent chip that wont need much extra voltage.
