Air 540 HDD Mod with Pics

I don't know if anyone posted something like this yet but I decided to relocate my HDD's in my Corsair Air 540. It was relatively easy. You just need 2 80 or 92mm fans, atleast 1 Hard Drive (lol), a pci slot cover/bracket and some Hard Drive/mobo/fan Screws.

I mounted the blower fan to a pci slot bracket and mounted it to the mesh with male and female motherboard screws. The outtake fan is mounted with a fan screw. The Hard Drives are mounted with HDD Screws to the mesh. I had temp sensors on them and monitored them before and after. The results improved both my HDD temps as well as my primary case temps which effect the mobo/cpu/gpu temps as well. Here is a pic comment on what you think. A side note I love this case and can't wait to get some funds for a full waterloop with HDD Blocks. My SSD is tucked above the 5.25 bay cage. I took 2 5.25 bay inserts from a 902 Antec and used them here to enable some more airflow. The second pick is to show the case and front vents. Thanks!

It looks like you're starving the fan on the PSU of air. There's no way that there's adequate flow coming from that. I have this case, and that back part can get a little toasty. And with that set-up, you'll have negative air pressure. It's a good idea, but the airflow will be a problem later on.

Thanks for the response phantom! I see your concerns here is what I have observed, The PSU never gos out of passive unless im doing crazy benchmarking and the temps on the HDDs as well as the other case section and are lower like this. I plan on posting a psu mod this week on sealing off the psu since some reviewers tend to gripe on this but honestly it never pulls any air until im cranking over 550-600 watts which is only when im doing a super overclock for 3dmark scores (trying to beat kingpin yeah right! lol) . The air540 case is a negative pressure case by default until you tape up all the mesh and pci slot covers and I highly recommend doing this as welll as removing the front fan filter if you dust regularly I have gotten great temp results as well as quiter fans by doing this. Thanks for the comment and I see your side of it but have yet to see the temp probes tell me anything negative so if you trust my testing and want to stop some hot air being created and flowing up to your gpu you can do the mod too :) Let me know if you have any more questions.

Did you make the 5.25" bay covers or are those available through retail?

I just removed the entire 5.25" cage from my 540 since it left me with more room to deal with my bundle of wires.

No they are from an antec 902 case I have in the closet i have like 12 of them left. I could mail you 2 if your in the states/Canada seriously no bs im going to throw them out soon and they look dope. Do you have a steam account post your steam name and ill friend you then you can send me your address through the chat I dont think there is anyway to pm on here yet. If you look closely I used them on my bitfenix controller below my gpu also.

oh yeah my steam name is "pilgrum" send me an invite

invite sent, mine is zearl88 gonna add it to my profile here

The 540 is a weird case, it can be super clean on the windowed side but a rats nest on the other. I guess most don't care since you can't see it but damn it I DO so I've been looking into sleeving.

sent you a chat on steam I dont think im going to worry about the back room wires till i put watercooling i got my ocd neat fix on the other side lol. This is by far my favorite case ive seen or owned and will get to the other side once i get a custom loop i hope corsair sells replacement doors like antec does so i can dual window it :)

Free cases!?! steam name is decripple and I have two friends in desperate need of decent cases for cheap!

If you still have any left please add me and message me!

Sorry to get off topic but this is exciting!
