AHCI on the MSI 970A-G46 AMD 9 Series Motherboard

I want to dual-boot my computer for a Hackintosh and a Windows machine. I've figured that my motherboard doesn't have AHCI support. I was looking at getting a new motherboard. and i found the MSI 970A-G46 AMD 9 Series Motherboard, and in the manual it has a SATA Mode: and an option for AHCI. I believe this would make my drives AHCI. i'm not sure, thats why i'm here

How do you wanne hackintosh on an AMD?  There is no real time amd to intel kernel patch for that.. as far as my knowledge goes.. you can only run mac osx mountain lion in VM ware on AMD.

Hackintosh real time only works on intel, as far as i know.

Anyway that msi board is rubbish for amd FX 8 core cpu´s.

I am planning on using the files from this tutorial, I've already set them up, but i get an error because my Motherboard doesn't have AHCI. And i have a FX-6100 right now.

till know from my experiance i was only able to install mac osx mountain lion on vm-ware on amd. i see that they have created an amd kernel patch, but im real doubting, that it works realy time. anyway, your motherboard should support ahci, as far as i know, all 970 chipsetboards do. That option should be in the bios, at your sata port configuration.

I'm very currious if you ever get it to work realtime.

let me know☺

I believe the board does support AHCI settings in the bios... I also used this board with a fx8350 and did not have a problem... Don't overclock it ..

that would be the case if it were a 970 chipset, the one i have is a 760G+SB710 I have the MSI 760GM-P34 (FX)

Yeah, not planning to anyway, and in the manual:

Integrated Peripherals

Press <Enter> to enter the sub-menu.

Onboard LAN Controller

This item allows you to enable/ disable the onboard LAN controller.

LAN Option ROM

This item is used to decide whether to invoke the Boot ROM of the onboard LAN.

SATA Mode

This item is used to specify RAID/ IDE/ AHCI mode for SATA port.

I was just wondering if Sata Mode was how i'd make it AHCI

MisteryAngel is the Sata Port Configuration the same as Sata mode?

yes probably.

Or maybe the ahci option, is somewhere hidden in the raid menu.

Does your mobo has an AS media sata III controller? Anyway i read on the msi forum that manny people having some issues with the sata controller on this board.

No my mobo is only sata 3

hmm then i am affraind you probably have an older version of the board, not FX.

Asus M5A97 R2.0 supports ahci on all theire 6 sata ports.

In my BIOS, there is a Raid Mode option, that when i put in AHCI, i get an error, let me boot up to give you the error

yes thats because, you installed windows in IDE mode.

anyway i found this artikle from nirent that they made an amd kernel patch, im currious if it works or not.

http://www.macbreaker.com/2014/01/install-osx-mavericks-on-pc-with-niresh.html

still waiting for root device

would i have to reformat my hard drives?

you could try this.

  1. switch back to ide mode and boot windows
  2. go to your registry
  3. go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
  4. In the right kolom: right click on start, then modify
  5. Change the value to 0 (zero) click on ok.
  6. close registry
  7. reboot to your bios.
  8. Enable AHCI on your sata controllers
  9. Reboot again.

This should work normaly.

On the nirent site that i gave above there is an guide, how to install mavericks on an drive on which allready has windows installation on it. to creat a dual boot menu. How this works idk, i did not tried it my self yet. maybe someday i will if i know for sure that it works on AMD. ☺

But i will try it in vm ware anyway. ☺

I went back to failsafe defaults and...

oh great, i broke my windows....

no just do the staps i posted above. you cannot switch from ide to ahci mode. you will get a bsod. you need to go back to ide mode, then boot to windows, and then do the staps i posted above, reboot to bios, in the bios switch to ahci mode. this normaly should work. But a clean install is mostly the best option anyway.

yeah i did those, and i keep getting the same error with MyHack i might be getting a new mobo, there is $10 off a instore purchase at TIgerDirect today

New mobo and clean install, well i spitted trough some msi forums and alot of people keep having problems with the particular board you have and the sata controllers, to ahci mode. So probably thease boards are just rubbish. even on ahci mode there are alot of compatibility issues, and speed issues.

Go with the Asus M5A97 R2.0. decent board, very easy to use bios. sata configuration can be found in advanced mode. all very easy to setup. UEFI bios.
