Again a failed SSD [solved]

Tell that to my 120GB 840 evo which I have in a usb 3 sata enclosure.

It's a portable SSD storage drive, basically. No TRIM but w/e, yadda yadda.

I left it in a drawer for a year and it still has all its data.

SSDs remain more reliable than hdds. They lat a lot longer and have a much smaller failure rate. You seem to just be incredibly unlucky (that our you have a faulty component elsewhere such as the psu or maybe the mobo). The Mushkin Eco2 drives and the 850 evo are a good way to go if you want to go new. That said, it should still be under warranty.

I'm curious...has anyone discovered if data is recoverable from a dead ssd?

I believe that they can be recovered if sent off to special facility the flash cells can be read. It could be a number of things such as a faulty micro controller, damaged PCB, or dead flash cells. Although the cost and time would probably be better spent on a new drive and re-installation of the OS. Perhaps if the data could cost your company millions of dollar then it would be well worth it.

<=1 yr old, you still are well within the warranty period, why wouldnt you just RMA it and get a replacement?? Chances are you'll get a new 850 evo back anyway.
Apart from that I'd be heavily considering grabbing a better psu. It may be a component killer.

After reading some reviews, I just decided to order a new PSU from BeQuiet (DarkPowerPro 11 1000W). Seems the Rosewill is more like a Nuke for computers than anything else. For now, I will use a WD Red as boot drive. Without the W8100, the system can run of a Thermaltake Berlin, so thats my current way to go.
Thanks a lot to everyone coming by to help.
