After Motherboard exchange no Video output from Guest GPU

Manjaro use Grub:

do i just add pcie_acs_override=downstream,multifunction or the whole

    pcie_acs_override =
[PCIE] Override missing PCIe ACS support for:
        downstream
All downstream ports - full ACS capabilties
        multifunction
All multifunction devices - multifunction ACS subset
        id:nnnn:nnnn
Specfic device - full ACS capabilities
Specified as vid:did (vendor/device ID) in hex

I would replace the quiet string with pcie_acs_override=downstream

The quiet string suppresses the full boot output so you might want to remove, also I would first try with downstream only. Then don’t forget to grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

After you boot from it :

  • grep dmesg for acs
  • cat /proc/cmdline
  • run find command above to show iommu groups.

i still get no video output from my 2080 with the vfio kernel :frowning:

maybe the kernel block the Nvidia GPU?

Read above, without providing much log there’s no way to help.

Also, I thought you were passing through the AMD card.

yes, i passing through a AMD card but i get no output on my host machine

that was what i mean with no video output with rtx 2080. my host machine runs with the 2080. if i select the vfio kernel from grub i get no video output on my host system. so i cant get through the logs.

I guess one step at the time, if you have built-in GPU, I would remove the Nvidia GPU entirely, then try to get AMD working. Ones that’s done, I would search for logs for Nvidia issue.

Also, you would really make yourself a favour if you would get off arch based distro to something like pop_OS

the Ryzen 5 2600x does not come with an build in GPU, so i need the Nvidia to use my OS.

mhhh but i really like Manjaro
i was on linux mint before, but i’m not a huge fan of ubuntu anymore. I also love the Cinnamon DE.

Do you have a laptop you could SSH to your host machine with ? Perhaps it’s booting properly it’s just crapped out on graphics

ah sure! my business notebook. i’ll give it a try

Also, your motherboard MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX on the picture does have integrated GPU … Is that not the case? Don’t you have DVI or HDMI port on the back of it ?

the ports only work if you have an APU (CPU + GPU) installed. Otherwise they are useless.

Ah makes sense… Bloody APU magic. Where are the days where display out on motherboard meant integrated GPU

That thing is probably booting but you’re missing kernel modules.

You can possibly get it to boot by adding nomodeset to kernel arguments.
This is most likely cause by manjaro/arch as it’s a type of distro where you’re supposed to do it all by yourself.

PS. You can get cinnamon on pop_OS you know…

You’ll be happy on pop_OS. Manjaro/arch based distros means trouble so you need to be willing to get your hands dirty

i have no problem to get my hands dirty  manjaro is much more user-friendly than Arch and that’s why I’ve been using it for years

so far I had less problems with it than with Ubuntu

Hmm looks like it didnt change much in terms of iommu groups.
And also looks like you have no downstream in your kernel arguments.

  • Change that so it’s pcie_acs_override=downstream,multifunction
  • reboot and post the same results.

oh yes, i tested with only multifunction and did not changed it back!

here is the new output:
