Advise on fibre splicer gear

Not sure this belongs here, feel free to move

I’m interested in fibre optics and deployment thereof at home but also in a potential commercial setting. As it happens I found this unit on Aliexpress and I’m wondering if any of these offerings (there are many similar to this) are worth considering for entry-level commercial FTTH deployment.

It’s quite an investment to start with, as one clearly needs training too.

If you’re an experienced fibre-splicer and consider these units e-waste, let me know what your alternative(s) is/are.

TIA!

Ive never spliced fiber myself, but it doesnt look too complicated other than lining it up perfectly.
I just always buy pre made cables from fs in the length I need. THey are plenty cheap and I think all my cables combined are still less than the cost of that kit.

Agreed, but out in the field, for a 100km fibre cable, splicing is pretty much mandatory. It’s an avenue of employment I want to look into, really.

Decades ago, I used to pull wire out in the patch and sometimes it was fiber optic. Because we were using miles of the stuff splicing was necessary. I wish I could remember the name of the unit we used for getting the job done but that doesn’t look like what we used. Mind that was over 20 years ago. I do know that you really need to know what you’re doing and we had to attempt splicing more than once to get it perfectly aligned. That’s the trickiest part of it. When you lay down the cable make sure that you do it on a warm day and let the cable flatten itself out naturally. DO NOT force the cable flat. That’s about all the advice I can offer at this point. I hope someone here recognizes that name and can offer you more help.
