I find the whole wireless charging concept kind-of gimmicky. I like to use my phone in bed while charging which is not possible when the phone is on the surface. You also cant take a charging dock with you like you can a simple cord, much less put it in a car and have it be stabling charging. I see no advantages of wireless other than less cords breaking at the joint.
Is there any advantages? Why should I care and why are we pushing wireless so much on smartphones taking up the budget?
I use a wireless charger and love it for one major reason. My old phone charger port got worn out and wouldn't charge correctly the cord was fine but the port wouldn't connect properly wireless avoids it so the port doesn’t ware as quickly.
I used the wireless charging built into my 2013 Nexus 5 the entire time I had it. It was nice because micro-USB ports on phones don't seem to be very robust (I've broken several), and when passing out after a long day I could just kind of throw my phone at the charger and the magnets would catch it.
Now that I have the Nexus 5X, which traded wireless charging for fast charging through USB Type-C, I don't find myself missing it.
Yeah, but couldn't [the phone companies] impliment a wireless charging type of battery that's swapable with a regular stock battery to save on initial costs? or would that melt the back cover of the phone?
I think right now part of it is proximity. Wireless charging has an extremely short range. That and more and more companies are moving away from user replaceable batteries.
More on topic, it doesn't destroy your USB port, and if you get a few of them, you can use one at your desk at work and one at home so you have lots of juice all the time.
If you're still young and don't have a work desk and most of your personal space is in your room, it just saves the USB port, which is still pretty good.
back when i had my galaxy s3 i think it was, i hacked open an old palm pre, spair case. took the coil out and pasted it into the back of my phones battery case
wireless charging ala about $10
its nice if your the type to come home from work, empty your pockets into a pile on a desk or something and sit at the pc. knowing your shit is charging as long as its on your desks space
double nerd points for sewing a charge transmit coil into your pocket next to a battery brick
I like it I could always put my phone down on my desk next to my pc without having extra cables lie around and you could just grab it an put it back without paying attention to a cable. just sucks if it is completly empty and you have to do sth on it.
