Adding a CPU cooler. Will it work with my build?

I'm thinking about adding a CPU cooler to my build. Here's my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jmanabc/saved/#view=PjF2FT

And the CPU cooler I was thinking about is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan (RR-212E-20PK-R2)

Any thoughts?

Note: I am not planning on overclocking

Any aftermarket CPU cooler is better than what comes packaged with a CPU even if you do not plan to overclock. Temps will run colder and the noise will be less. That case will hold the Hyper 212 Evo as well. The stock coolers do the job but the fans are very small.

The Hyper 212 Evo does a great job for how cheap it is. I had one before switching to an AIO cooler, and I could push my 4770k to 4.5GHz with it and still have acceptable temps. It'll be much better than any stock cooler, and you can always swap the fan for something quieter if you want more silence later.

Don't be so sure on that. I've heard otherwise by Carey Holzman who's been in the computer field for over 25 years! IF your NOT over clocking, then the stock cooler is fine.

Stock cooler might be adequate for cooling a stock processor, but they are usually noisy as hell.

If you're considering the Hyper 212 then you may want to look at the Cryorig H7 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UF2DZ6565 It is essentially the same price and usually outperforms the 212 by a few degrees C.

Are you sure about that? Here is my AMD FX 8350 without an overclock after watching a blu ray movie on my computer. Sounds like a hair dryer. Unless you like that sound. Also what harm would it do for the original poster to go ahead and buy an aftermarket cooler? He may get into overclocking later on. Plus the Hyper 212 Evo is dirt cheap.

Of course there is no harm; its up to the original poster to do as he pleases after all. I was just pointing out what I have heard. (No pun intended) ;O)

One thing you have to understand is stock amd cpu coolers are a lot louder than stock intel cpu coolers that is why everyone recommends you go to an aftermarket cpu cooler when buying amd. I have run stock intel cpu coolers and they run alot quieter. That being said with a build like this there is no reason to go with a stock cpu cooler its a k processor and can be overclocked so get a good cooler if you want a good entry level cooler the hyper 212 evo fits the bill I personally like corsair closed loop liquid coolers line because you can add more ram relatively easily where some coolers you would need to take off to add additional memory.

A 212 EVO is adequate and will fit in your case without problems. You might have some problems with ram clearance.

Or spend 20$ more so you have some overclocking headrom if you change your mind 2 years down the road.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Id say go for it. Its a great part. Uhmm if you consider upgrading its fan. Dont go noctua. Go EK vardar F4 or if your into silence F3

I second the H7 and even though it has a lower CFM fan (a little bit) and only 3 heatpipes, it is in my opinion a better value because it performs at the same level or a little better than a 212 Evo all things stock across the two.

However, with a better performance fan like a Scythe Grand Flex or Gentle Typhoon or Noctua NF-F12 2000RPM fan, they become very close to each other.

The single main reason to go with Cryorig H7 IMO is it is designed with much better ram clearance and is quieter out of the box with the same performance. I think it is the best $35 air cooler on the market right now.

glhf with your cooler upgrade :D

I agree with the Cryorig H7, its a very good choice.

The CM 212 EVO isnt bad either, but in my opinnion the mounting mechanism is kinda wonky.

and unlike some other aftermarket coolers on amd sockets you can mount them front to back.
