Does anyone know any good ways to block ads on Linux? I have adblock plus, but it doesn't seem to work as well as it does on Windows/
I haven't had any problems using Adblock Plus in Chromium. To me, it seemed to have worked as well as it did in Chrome on Windows.
I use uBlock. If you feel like it you could manually edit /etc/hosts to block ads but it's very time consuming
/\
yeah ublock does the job.
Don't take Chromium etc... you'll have ads... (its google's business)
AdBlockPlus works exactly the same as in windows. As long as you are using the same browser it will be the same. Maybe you have allowed some site by mistake. Also ABP allows some ads that it deems ¨non-invasive¨ through. Maybe you just did not happen notice until now in windows.
That being said a good alternative is ublock. Does not allow anything, it is designed to provide general security (not just an adblocker) and it take less resources to operate giving the browser better performance. At least I saw noticable difference in firefox.
BTW Chromium does not include google trademarks or the data mining software that chrome does. You are not going to be getting more ads in chromium.
I use Adguard on both windows and linux and it works great.
Adguard with both firefox and chromium, it works great :)
I use Bluhell Firewall! Not the best ad-blocker but it does the job just fine and it's also very light on resources.
Dedicated adblockers might not exactly be or work what or like you expect.
Generally, I find blocking scripts and links works much better for a browsing experience that is better on all fronts.
I now use the extension "policeman" in firefox, which has great easy settings, takes no time to use, allows for maximum control and overview. I think it's better than using settings or extensions like noscript for blocking unwanted content.
I use Adguard.
