Actually getting CPU-Z to show your full core MHz

What do you run in the background to push the CPU to 6.1 so it shows up in CPU-Z Validator? I set mine up to 5000MHz and in BIOS and in Windows however, CPU-Z Shows 1404MHz with a multiplier x7.0. In the BIOS it is set and stabilized at 5000MHz at w/ x25 Multiplier.

Most likely AMD's Cool n Quiet technology where it only ramps up the CPU to full speed when it needs it. It's designed to reduce heat and power consumption. There should be an option in the BIOS to turn it off.

Yeah that's what I thought too, I checked that last night. I set it from disabled by cpu, to completely disabled. No luck..

You really shouldn't turn it off though unless you want to drastically reduce the life of your CPU.  Just throw up a graph of your clock speeds, open some kind of bench app (try Prime95) and watch the numbers fly.

edit: if you just keep CPU-Z open it should reflect the changes in your clocks there as well.

I know. I have had CPU-Z open the whole time with task manager open to show the processors working. All while I had prime95 running. I stated that I had CPU-Z running in my posting.. My problem is that It never shows my core speed above 1400MHz and my multiplier stays at x7. That is what I am trying to figure out. No spectacular numbers..

your cpu may have clocked itself down.... tjmax for fx processors is 70c

The temps are running fine 32c. I have H100 running on extreme and all fans turned up on fan controller and 2 180mm fans running on high as the intake. It is not even close to 70c

ok. then cpu-z might not be reading right?

sometimes it says my i5 is running at 700mhz....

Yeah, I get that it won't be running at 5000MHz all the time but I just want to see it JUST ONCE haha. If not on CPU-Z then on some kind of score that I can feel good about and post! If there is anything that anyone can offer to help me achieve this then please let me know.

Thank you in advance,

Richard

If you aren't seeing the higher clock speeds at all, run some kind of measurable benchmark, go ahead and turn your clocks back to stock, and run it again.  If your score is near the same, your CPU probably isn't clocking up.  If there is a noticeable difference, CPU-Z must be having issues.  The Asus utility that came with my mobo seem to work fine at reading my clocks, perhaps their tool will work on your PC?  Though CPU-Z really should be working.

um go into power management, and set the profile to performance, you can get to it from the control pannel

You could always use CoreTemp to see what speeds you're running at. (Mine shows 3392 MHz, 199.57 MHz with a 17x multiplier)

I wish my problem could be solved by going through control panel..

OMG I'M AN IDIOT! So I found out what I have been doing wrong. I had the slow mode switch set to on.. and the LN2 jumper set to enable.. Turned slow mode off and changed the jumper over to disable, switched on and all is well. Continuing with the overclocking.

Good to hear it's fixed! Let us know how the overclocking turns out.

Uh...you're using Prime 95 to make sure it's stable right? Because that should have pushed the cpu to its maximum speed in the first place.

Make sense..

Just saying, if you're overclocking and you're not stress testing, then it's probably massively unstable.

"I have had CPU-Z open the whole time with task manager open to show the processors working. All while I had prime95 running." I know you're trying to help but do please read before you comment.

Everything is stable as can be. http://valid.canardpc.com/2611091 . I am going to leave it pretty much stock for a while before I begin OCing again.
