Accelerator for robotic cart

So as the topic states I am in need of some help looking for an accelerator for a robotic cart that i have been tasked with building for a college course. What the cart is tasked with doing is hauling a 50 lb payload and being able in the end follow an individual. What we are looking at using for the base of the system is an Intel nuc with ROS over either ubuntu or linux mint, and inputs we ill be controlled by a custom arduino that we are tasked with making. If there is any other information that would be of use please feel free to ask, Im kinda shooting in the dark here. And apologies if i put this in the wrong sub forum.

an accelerator?

You mean an accelerameter? Or do you literaly mean something that accelerates the cart? (ie, motor + gearbox + wheels)

accelerameter. Sorry for the confusion.

Sparkfun has some 3-axis accelerometer breakout boards that should make your life easier. Adafruit has similar stuff, or Pololu.

I don't work for Pololu, but I usually like their products and support/documentation. But honestly any of those three are excellent resources.

Also if you haven't found it yet, the robotics stackexchange isn't too bad for getting your questions answered.

Thank you for the replies. We r using adafruit because our school has an account with them, anything specific that they have that you'd recommend?
