About to switch over!

I have been moving all important files over to cloud and external backup and I am close to switching from W10 to PopOS as I like to game, mainly games that I have already verified work natively or via Proton. Any further advice before I make the move?

Be prepared to spend time fixing things when they don’t work.

Test functionality in the live boot environment before you commit to overwriting your Windows install.

Most things will probably just work out of the box, but you might have to install extra software to enable things like video playback.

Don’t be afraid of the command line. It is required and it is also your friend.

Welcome to the Dark side. Dropbox is a great tool for switching. Firefox and Vivaldi browsers have cloud sync for passwords and favorites.
I switched almost 2 years ago and it has been great. I use Steam mostly for gaming. The search bar on level one forums is your best friend. Good luck…

as long as you keep in mind that linux is not windows you shouldn’t have too much trouble with getting used to it.
theres a little learning curve to it but not much, More and more a lot of the new linux distros coming out are far easier than they were before and much more user friendly.
Joining the user forum for your distro is always a wise decision because you will find a lot of helpful advice on how to make the most of your distro.
It does however take a little dedication and you will learn a lot more about your system than you ever could with windows.
once you get used to linux you will probably never go back.

Keep another system that has a web browser beside you as you are switching, so you can look things up.

Carefully read any error messages, they normally tell you what is wrong right in the message. If the message is obtuse, a quick search will often bring up relevant results, although sometimes the same error message can have several root causes, so don’t just copy and paste commands, try reading first.

There will be a lot of fighting over which distro/wm/editor/etc. is best, but keep in mind that instructions/advice on most distros is applicable to other distros as well. Don’t be afraid to look up the Arch wiki to fix something on PopOS. And on that note, after you start getting more familiar with the system, don’t be afraid to look into some of the subsystems (like what is desktop environment vs a window manager?), that’s what makes Linux fun

Good luck, have fun! Don’t expect to master it immediately, it is well worth it to go through a little bit of re-learning how to use a computer.
