About to pull the trigger on Windows 7/10

Alright. So i found this eBay seller, selling a new copy of Windows 7 ULTIMATE retail for what looks to be a too-good-to-be-true price. With the help of other users, i have established that i will be able to claim Windows 10 for free AND as a RETAIL copy so long as i am coming from a retail copy of Windows 7. So, i just wanted some users here to help me. I'll also be going across the border to pick this up, as i am in Canada. Seller is only shipping to the U.S.

Anyway, please tell me if this checks out, folks. This is simply a steal, from what i'm seeing.

Just "find" a copy of it elsewhere for much less money. no reason to spend all that time, effort, and money getting a cheap potentially invalid windows key

amazon has refurb licences for 60 usd for win 7 pro. Ive used a couple of them

Find it? Um... You make it sound very, very easy. So there's a chance of this actually being a scam. Packaging does look sealed. Care to elaborate?

find as in you could find a working iso of windows with a google search, if you aren't going to buy a key directly from microsoft, well save yourself money and don't give money to resellers that may or may not be selling you things that might have been stolen and/or purchased with stolen credit cards.

Problem is, i need a retail version. How do i go about doing that? I can get a retail KEY, specifically? How do i get just a legit retail key for W7?

Well why do you need that exactly? "free" copies work fine, did you mean for windows 10? because like I dunno about windows 10 with all it's built in spyware. and I think windows 10 is only free up to a year after you upgrade or something

A retail W7 copy gives me a retail W10 which i can keep indefinitely. And what about Spyware? Also, i might not know what's apparently going on with Windows 10, but what about the problem of DX12? It's only exclusive to Windows 10. What am i to do? I'm about to build a system with a Maxwell GPU and lock myself out of DX12? Unless of course Vulkan is a sure solution. But we don't know that yet.

Well Maxwell already might not fully support DX12, but games are going to support DX11 and 9 even in some cases for a while, there's like 1 announced game that's going to use DX12 next year I think and that's Deus ex

Are you sure it's free forever if you have a retail copy? Either way that key might already be used, I mean you're better off just getting windows 7 "free" for a while until you can save up and buy a copy of windows 10 and avoid any potential issues

windows 10 sends your data back to microsoft, and usually with updates seems to reset your privacy settings back to default even if you disable everything.

not to mention you have like no control over when your PC updates I think all you can do is tell it not to update everytime it wants to update.

Well... shit. Now you got me completely torn. How in the hell do i "borrow" Windows 7? Because i've never "borrowed" anything other than older versions of Adobe CC apps. And i know we aren't supposed to discuss "borrowing" here at all. All i ever remember of OS borrowing from the past is that it was a major pain in the ass. I don't even know where to begin.

EXCELLENT!
A physical disc and printed serial # is good to have on hand and don't worry about going right to Windows 10.

Apparently i'm better off "borrowing" Windows 7 off the internet. For the sake of ease and convenience, i'd love this. The only thing i'm worried about is legitimacy.

Same with any free or "free" program, you grab the one that has the most downloads/is the most popular

Most reburbished PC sellers or at least the really cheap ones with like c2d chips have borrowed windows

Windows 10 Pro from Micro$oft is $200 now and I paid $200 for Win 7 Pro as a beta tester in 2009. If you can get a legal fully supported and updated copy for 61% off, it's probably a good move.
Piracy is a grey area but I don't pirate my OS.

@cortbyron I have absolutely no problem purchasing this if it is legit and i can get my beautiful retail key with it. If you can give me your best judgement and let me know what you think of this seller/sale in general, would be greatly appreciated. I'll go pick this up so fast the paint will come flying off my car.

@Streetguru

Still the problem of the Key. How the hell do i get one for borrowed OS?

There are programs that I used to read my new Win10 key. It's not the same as the Win7 key. I think now a Win7 key will work if you download the right ISO from M$. Most of the borrowed OS I have seen have been Corp editions with no key or a patch to bypass the initial need for a key. Usually it means no updates. The patch is risky. Key generators contains deadly viruses. I has heard that M$ is being lenient because more than half the world is using Windows w/o paying for it. They want those people using Win10.

I have no idea. thats on you man.
Have no regrets about going for what you think is a deal

Get in your car and don't text and drive.

So having done the windows 10 upgrade thing for people a few times this year. If the key is not linked to an account on the Microsoft store, you do not get the "retail" benefits. If you upgrade from W7 you do not get a retail key, no idea where that came from. it simply checks that windows is validated before the upgrade and creates a validation key (which is not a product key) for that install. If you wipe, change chip-sets or any other method of clean install you lose the W10 licence. If you want W10 with full Microsoft support, buy W10 from M$. If not, learn some google fu and get W7 without going thru some shady reseller.

On another note. Aside from some growing pains and updates making me have to re-do power and preferred app settings I really am enjoying W10. But I did my homework and learned how to cut off it's pervert spying balls first.

Also, if ur a student. check out onthehub.com. I got free legit product keys for every single M# product simply for being in college.

Oh ya, another issue with windows 10, can't you only upgrade or change out your hardware a certain number of times per key?
