About to build my first PC ... HELP pls

Hi guys,
I am about to build my first pc and could use some advice.
I will be using it mainly for photo and some video editing as well as moderate gaming.
My budget is £800-£900 (not including monitors and peripherals).
I don't care about aesthetics at all, just want to get the most performance for the money.
This is what I came up with after some research:

Please let me know what you think, I am open to suggestions for changes.

Twice the CPU threads, Larger SSD lower price, the after market cooler is a bit unnessisary, but get a Hyper 212 Evo if you want something quieter

Skylake really isn't worth going for in the UK, all it gives you is 5% more IPC, and USB 3.1

Also the NEX PSUs are supposed to be sub par or something

Hyper 212 isn't available I guess, added a low profile cooler

Thank You!

Few things of course, you got room left over if you want a better case

But dear lord, why is the HAF XB so expensive over there

The Silencio cases are nice ish

Also you only have like a single 1080p display?

For now I have an old 15" 1080p dell monitor which I am currently using as a secondary display for my laptop.
The plan for the future is to get three 24" 1440p monitors. I haven`t chosen any yet as I need to save up the money first, which should take me two to three months.

I am doing the whole thing in a bit of a rush because my laptop is quite old and I can feel it dying.
I`ve abused it quite a lot over the years and its getting to the point where it just time to retire it before it craps out completely.
Thanks for the advice.
If you have any suggestions for monitors I wouldn’t mind hearing them.

I think your configuration is really good and should stay like it. For 2£ more than you spend with your config you can put in a 4790K CPU, an Asus Z97 Pro Gamer and 8GB of ram. I would totally skip on ram capacity to get a better CPU. What you think about it?

Here's the config:

I don't know about skipping on the ram. I will be doing a lot of time lapse editing as well as having 100 chrome tabs open at all times which is a bad habit of mine. I don`t know if 8GB will be enough.

Well you can save up a bit more and get 16GB of ram in the config I made and be in the 950£ price range. I think it might be a better idea get a more powerful CPU for video editing, will come in handy for sure.

I just had another go at putting something together:

don't need ddr4, get ddr3, the speeds have such little differences in performance compared to amd, so save some cash, don't get the ddr4

will do
I am looking at Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory currently.

Check what connections you have on your monitor. Some old monitors just have VGA and many of the newer cards don't have VGA so you may need an adaptor. When I saw a 15" monitor I was wondering if its CRT of not.

Thanks for reminding me, it's not CRT but it does have a single VGA port.
Will an adaptor work? I thought VGA was analog and DVI digital.
Worst case scenario the processor has intel graphics and the motherboard has a VGA port so I`ll just use that until I get better monitors.

If you buy a R9 390 and use integrated graphics so you can use a 15" dinosaur monitor... you are dead to me, sir :P

3x 1440p monitors will be VERY pricey... more than your whole build for quality IPS displays in a size big enough to read basic text on without turning on disability options (basically anything under 27")

Also, to game on that setup, you'd need a MONSTER array of video cards... for basically anything you're doing short of systems' admin or huge building security monitor, two 27" 1440p monitors is enough real estate to cover it... and when you game, you'll only need to push the one 1440p monitor which isn't nearly as taxing as triple that...

I think you have some reasonable recommendations here for the price... and I hate when people post different configs for everything +/- one part... so I won't add to that...

I WILL add, however, that getting a nice, roomy, easy-to-build-in case with ample cable management is important for a first time build... also, the two things that are most overlooked in the effort of cutting costs are the PSU and Case... which are the same two components that are basically future-proof and can survive several build cycles...

It doesn't sound like you're super-serious about video editing, which could require a build double the budget if you were... so I wouldn't focus on that aspect... but hyperthreading would be useful... so I would center it around a Xeon E3 1231 v3, decent H97 mobo, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1TB storage, nice Gold+ rated PSU with some overhead, and a nice case that you like the design of and is confirmed easy to work in...

If you needed to skimp somewhere, I might be inclined to do it on the GPU at this point... and this is purely speculative... but we'll need single card solutions that can run 2x 90 FPS minimum for VR to become a thing... I would imagine the high-end cards of next gen to do just that... so if ever there were a REASON for GPUs to make a significant leap on the next release... next gen would be that... I might go with a 750ti, or R9 380... or even a used R9 280 or whatever's a good deal GPU... The GPU is by FAR the fastest aging thing in your system no matter what you buy... CPUs age VERY slowly... high-end GPUs are extremely resellable because people are looking to SLI/Xfire them when they don't meet demands anymore and low-end GPUs are basically trash after a couple years...

Weigh your options and decide what's most important for you now and in the long run I guess would be my advice... I'd rather have a 27" 1440p monitor and a 750ti than a 15" dinosaur and a 390...
