A10 5800k + ASUS F2A85-M LE - Is it a good choice?

This is my first time buildibg a pc and im 15 years old. Im a long time console gamer Nd i think that i finally need an upgrade. I cant order online so i check pricelists in my local stores. Luckily, ive heard great things about this apu and ive also seen this in one of logan's builds. What I really like about this apu is the integrated gpu. Its not the best but it can play bf3 on low and crysis 3 on low. And of course i wont be sticking with the igpu fir the long run. Im going to get a discrete gpu later (maybe the r7770 or the 7870 if it wont get bottlenecked.)

Anyway i was thinking if the mobo and apu was a good combo. It would save me a lot of money in the long run if its a good one. Thanks guys. :D

Bump?:D

I had an A8 once, and after that experience. I'd personally reccomend just a good AM3 amd processor and board plus something like a ati 7770. Problem is, FM2 isn't being supported well. The processors are decent, but really lag in games like Saints row 3/GTA4/Crysis 3. I'd get say a cheaper AMD phenom dual or quad core for 60$, plus a 7770 for 110$. Thing is, you can upgrade it in the future to say even an 8350. With an FM2 board, thats not going to happen.

*Edit* Looking on amazon, an A10 is right at 130$. Heres the deal. If you're looking to play games that come out later this year and next, I wouldn't do it. It'll play battlefield 3 on medium settings at 720p probably around 30fps. My huge problem is upgradeability. I would guess that the FM3 boards will likely be out by 2014, or that summer at least. FM2 isn't backwards compatible with FM1, so I would imagine FM3 to be the same. Whereas the AM3 has been backwards compatible pretty well.

If you believe you'll have the processor for 3+ years, it really isn't the worst deal. 3.8ghz quad core. But if you ever want to upgrade, you're kindof stuck.

I guess you're right. I didn't think of the upgrade path for my processor. I'll probably just go with an i3.

The APU's aren't designed to play games at a full blown setting, but they are great for basic gaming rigs. What's your budget for your whole build?

get an fx 6300 build! seriously!

I aint got the money for that. Im on a tight budget. Around 350-450$. Also, ive chosen a pentium g2020 and, radeon 6670 ddr5, msi b75ma-p45, 4GBx2 pc1600 w/ heatsink corsair, wd 500 gb blue, thermaltake litepower 500w, and probably an antec one or a cm elite 343 matx. ill proably slap a windows 8 in there too and an 18.5 inch acer monitor. I guess thats around 500$. Im guesing if i didnt add the monitor and os, i probably would only spend around 400$.

Do NOT invest in a dual core CPU for a gaming PC, seriously! It's throwing away money. You're better off saving up until you have enough for a quad core.

A dual core i3 or Pentium or Athlon or whatever is like gaming on a 2009 PC, it's not satisfactory for 2013 games at all.

+1 on the Phenom II X4 955/965, you have to hurry because AMD has phased them out so they'll not be available for long, but they are really good quad core CPU's that will keep up with games for years to come, and they fit AM3+ boards so that you will not have to buy a new mobo if you want to upgrade later.

Also, save up for a 7850 2GB 2fan card, you don't need a computer case, you can make a testbench yourself from some salvaged wood or build it into a salvaged cabinet or cupboard or fruitcase for that matter, you don't need a fancy keyboard, but you do need a quad core processor, a good graphics card and a good gaming mouse. Better to save up and wait a little longer than to throw money down the drain. What's the use of getting a PC that will only perform as well as a last generation console?

First of all, i have no pc. I only got a laptop which is 10x worse than the build i listed. The pentium i chose is sort of temporary (of course) . I will be upgrading most of the stuff in a year or so. I trust Logan's judgement on the pentium. Second, i thought most games use no more than 2 cores to play.

This build isnt just for gaming, its for school and work. So basically, I NEED a pc and this is the best build i can make that can handle some gaming and schoolwork. Thanks for your opinions though. Ill try to improve this build. Also i cant ordef online. Im 15. Lol

Well, I suggest getting a cheap bulldozer solution (FX 6100 + 760g chipset mobo), the hardware stores got plenty of this stuff, so you won't have issues on the purchase.

Get a decent 4gb stick of 1600mhz ram (chech the mobo supports it before you purchase, most of the Gigabyte ones with this chipset doesn't). And a decent case (such as Corsair 200R). with a branded 500W PSU. Grab a HDD, 1tb drives are cheap.

So Until now, we hit a pricepoint between 350-400 dollars, depending on where you buy. Then proceed with this:

If you don't have a monitor at all, I prefer you to stick with the build in graphics until you can afford to put a GPU in here before going for an ugly monitor and a small graphics card. Get something that is LED and 1080p. Asus, BenQ, Dell, Acer, Samsung, HP, Viewsonic, LG, any of those will be good.

If you don't need this monitor right away, go with 7770 they are between $110-125.

Good Luck!

An option: A monitor from ebay, it will save you a lot.

I mean just the processor itself, it's + 2 cores for about 30 bucks more, if you can spare it.

He can't order online, he is just buying from stores that are at his city range.

As a guy that was once 15 and with a few bucks on his pockets that he made by reinstalling windows on older people's PC (without erasing their family pictures of course), I truly know what is to only be able to purchase just by direct human interaction (because of my damn parents). But still, I managed to get something better than my pc at that time (a 1.6ghz single core Sempron with integrated graphics and a gig of ram).

An A10 with a DDR5 6670 should pull pretty good, I built a computer for my brother with an A8 + DDR5 6670 that I know runs Skyrim on higher settings at acceptable frame rates.  I can only imagine the A10 would be more powerful, just be aware that the upgrade path is limited, and an APU by itself will be medium to lower speed when it comes to graphics.  I've heard that the A10's built in graphics are equivalent to a 6670 but I haven't looked into the matter and confirmed/denied the claim so take it with a grain of salt.

-Pentium G2020 2.9 Ghz
(Don't listen to people saying it isn't enough. Running on an i3, I max everything at 1440x900, and Hyper-threading doesn't help sh*t in gaming.)

-AsRock B75 Pro3 /or Pro3M - USB3,SATA3,CrossfireX capability
-Some random 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 Memory (Yes, more than enough.Kingmax/Kingston/Corsair,etc.)
-HD 7750/HD 7770 (Both are miles ahead of the 6670, grab the 7770 if you can.Max settings....)
-At least 400W 80+(!!!) PSU (Corsair CX430/FSP HEXA400,whatever...just get 80+.)
-WD/Seagate 500GB HDD (7200 rpm, no green stuff, that is slow.)
-Fractal Core1000 <-- check it out

This will max out everything until around 1680x1050. Except for gta 4...no dual core will run that above 1280x720. Everything else, including BF3,Dirt2/3,Far Cry 3,Max payne 3...no problem.

Have built 2 budget rigs with the 7750 for friends, one with a G620, one with an i3-2120.They max everything around 1280x720-1366x768.
