A simple question

Greetings fellow Syndicate members

i have a pretty simple problem over

this is my build

AMD FX-4130 Black 3,8Ghz

Sabertooth 990FX r2.0

OCZ vertex 3 128gb SSD

WD Caviar Black 1Tb HDD

8Gb Corsair 1600mhz XMS

MSI GTX 660 OC edition 2gb

Corsair GS700W PSU

Case.....well its old as shit, but it works just fine

and a bunch of fans that miraculously keep the pc cool n chilly :D

and my question is - what to upgrade next. a gamer is not a gamer if he doesnt continue to upgrade a pc that runs 90% of the new games in 1080p @ 50-60fps at max settings :D thusly my question

budget is about 500$, but it has no purpose since the prices in my country are 5x higher than the ones you get in the USA or Western EU, nor can i get shipping of IT stuff from the states or anywhere else - so just scratch that ;-)

thank You for your time and effort to help me out

ps

i live in croatia, so stuff be VEEEEEEERY expensive here, i can only choose one option (cpu, ram, case, fans, cooling, a hello kitty sitcker) since im not even close to being rich.

Sell that 660 and get a 780 now the prices have dropped, that should leave money for a hello kitty sticker too!

Upgrading the GPU would give you the best boost in gaming performance. Though, I'd rather upgrade the FX4130 to an FX8320 or 8350.

The reason for this is that CPUs will become scarce, eventually. Becoming much more expensive and harder to find. Having a high-end CPU will allow you to use higher-tier GPUs. So while you may not be upgrading your GPU at this time, it will allow you to continue using this system for a good number of years.

You can upgrade the GPU in the future. The 660 isn't a terrible card.

totally where i was headed - getting the 8350 was a hidden mission for me, the 660 is amazing, especially when running skyrim with a gazzillion mods in full hd at 40fps or higher, so investing in the cpu has more sense to me at this moment :)

thanks both of you :)

btw what about the RAM ? getting more like 16gb or 32gb at higher mhz?

+1

Upgrade your CPU to the FX 8350.  It's a necessary step to prevent your system from bottlenecking a powerful GPU such as the R9 290X or the GTX 780.  You may even see some performance gains after upgrading.  The FX 4130 is weak in comparison to the 8350.

8GB is good enough for gaming today, and having higher clocked ram might increase your FPS by 1 or 2, if you use a discrete GPU.  Your ram is fine, just look into a CPU or GPU upgrade.

1600mhz is absolutely fine. I don't see much point in going higher than that, unless you're using an APU (you're not). And I prefer to have a lower CAS latency for editing. e.g CL7 1600.

There's every chance that new-generation games will utilise RAM greater than 8GB. Some people reported using as much as 12GB in BF4. Anything less than 12GB will still be fine for games like BF4.

I wouldn't prioritise obtaining more RAM. However, you might want to grab an additional 8GB of RAM before the price of DDR3 increases. Again, DDR3 will become scarce with the introduction of DDR4.

And with the 8350, 16GB would make this quite a capable editing rig.

btw what about the RAM ? getting more like 16gb or 32gb at higher mhz?

That isn't necessary.  What you have now is plenty for a vast majority of games.  I think BF4 is one of the few games that can utilize more RAM.

the amount of polite and professional/enthusiast comments here is such a positive change considering the places ive been and the comments ive read.....finding the tek syndicate was the light at the end of the tunnel now it seems for me

thank You all for the help

now i know where to boldly go :)

Out of interest, what other sites did you go to?

xD

ones specific to my country, croatia, we are mostly impolite people that mainly focus on graphics rather than overall performance and gameplay, and in general we are jealous to the man next to us that has a better pc :) croatian based forums and gaming websites are full of rant, crying, flaming, and 12 year old ''pros'' in pc gaming -.- i would honestly give my right lung and one kidney to even be a janitor at the tek syndicates hideout, at least logan wouldnt have to worry about dust in their next video :D

Be sure to stick around. It's not all hardware/ build questions
