A Ryzen laptop with an external GPU? That's what Thinkpad.com shows for the E585

I’m very confused.

See here (page is in Chinese): https://www.thinkpad.com/product/430.html

These laptops have the Ryzen APUs. As far as I know, AMD can’t use Thunderbolt but this page shows an external GPU

Any idea what the deal is with this?

We will need someone who speaks that language. Else it is guesswork only.

Yeah, I tried an online image translator but it didn’t go over so well lol

:man_shrugging:t2:

Its too hard for Google :fire: to search “thinkpad e585” and thunderbolt, who knows

It’s only a Type-C port with USB 3.1 gen 1 speeds.

Judging by the size of the laptop next to that keyboard, I’d say they’ve reused an image of the X280 on the E585’s page.

Ryzen can use thunderbolt. Hp has a laptop with that combo.

Can’t you do thunderbolt add-on card via pcie on AMD?

There are also cards that can do that. Just need to pipe in DisplayPort from elsewhere if you need video via thunderbolt.

The E585 is available as of today in the USA.

Price starts at $561 for a 4GB, R5-2500u, 15.6 720p display with a 7,200 rpm 500GB spinning rust drive.

It does not come with Thunderbolt. But there is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 type C USB port, that does your power delivery, display port, and data transfer.

What is that keyboard I want it.

Check out over on the Thinkpad sub-reddit. Some company is making the mechanical version of a Thinkpad style keyboard.

It is called the “Tex Yoda II”. Its about $260, from Massdrop… Or at least it was according to a reviewer.

Woo! Ordered. I’ve been waiting on this one for months. Hopefully I can get Linux working on it… there isn’t much info available about these laptops yet.

This is about all I’ve been able to find so far and it ended in a kernel panic https://evilazrael.de/content/getting-linux-boot-lenovo-thinkpad-e485e585

Congrats, bro! I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks about the computer. There has not been a good AMD laptop out for a long time.

We do have a reviewers badge for offer btw. All you would have to do is post a quick little thread about your thoughts.

Will do for sure.

The laptop is estimated to arrive this Wednesday … finally. It shipped direct from the factory in China

The blog I linked previously has been updated with more promising info. https://evilazrael.de/comment/900
