A Ram Question

First off im putting this here because i didnt see a forum section for ram questions. Anywho My question is: Why is it a stick of ram says something like 1333mhz and runs at 1333 but the memory clock says 666.7(using my pc for refernce)? or better put how does it work? i googled alot but i really didnt find any good simple info so any help on this would be nice.

Your ram is probably a kit of 2 dims, they're designed to work in dual channel. meaning both run at 666.7 mhz a piece at their respective timinings. now dual channel means the dims work together; therefore, 2x 666.7 = about 1333 mhz. hope this answers your question. manufacturers label the boxes at 1333mhz, but in reality each works at half the frequency. Thus, 1600 mhz ran runs at 800 mhz per dim.

ah ok makes since thanks for the info

note to self earn money and upgrade pc so it can run 2100mhz

not exactly the other aspect of ram is the timings while the speed can be very high. in order to run ram at those speeds you need less tight timings. Such as g. skill sniper ram running at 2133mhz at 11-11-11-30 timings (or something close to that). would not be as fast as you think it would. I'd tell you more, but i'm still trying to understand timings myself. What i do know is 1600 mhz with tighter timings can be potentially faster than 2133 mhz ram. Such as, 1600 mhz running 7-8-7-24 timings. I'm un aware what each number  means, it's something like one is how fast the memory can accesses that block of info, then the time it waits before grabbing the next, then bla bla bla etc. Don't buy the fastest ram on the block get a ram with low latency if you're going to upgrade. g. skill ripjaws is a good option, 1600 mhz @ 8-8-8-24 timings. I've tried to clear up some misconceptions about ram, but again your going to have to ask someone else on the forums what the timings represent.

ah ok so faster ram means not always faster

if i had the money i would but since i dont im stuck with my unmatch ram tho i matched the timings to prevent alot of issues also my timing are set to 9-9-9-24 and for those who would like to know what my ram is its G Skill F3-10666CL9-2GBNQ 2 GB (x2) & Patriot Memory PSD32G13332 2 GB (x2)

if you want to make absolutely certain your ram is stable and works together you may want to run prime 95 in a blend test for a couple hours. goodluck dude and i understand not all of us are made out of money
