A New Camera, For Video and Lots of Photography

Ok, So Guys, i understand this question has been asked and answered so many times but i have personally gone through a lot of them, but couldn't find an answer to it..
so here goes
I Am someone who needs a Camera, I Am a Sailor and i travel a lot, and i would like to take pictures of my travels.. i am currently using my Phone (Xperia Z3) as my Camera.
Now that bieng said, i also have a YouTube channel when i review stuff, mainly Custom ROMs and other gadgets.(Here also, i use my Z3) so it would be wonderful if i can use the same camera for the videos i want to shoot. (Just a Hint of what i do)

I Have been looking at dSLRs and they seem to be quite bulky. I Wont mind it much, but i am more interested in mirrorless Cameras, as they seem to provide enough Clarity and are quite compact.. i dont have much experience with Interchangeable Lens Cameras, but i like the concept.

So in Short, My Use Cases are.
1. Photography of places I Travel to.
2. Taking Videos of the Stuff I review.

I Have been Looking at a Few Cameras, like the Sony a6000Y, Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark 2, OMD E-M 5, Lumix G7 to name a few..

But i am confused with a lot of stuff i am seeing in those. and Budget Falls somewhere between $1000-1200 for the Complete Kit (Body+Lenses)... FYI I Am From India so availability is a Concern but i can probably get the one when i am travelling so not a huge problem.

Also Something to note is that i need the Camera i am Buying to be with me for some time as i am not willing to upgrade my entire kit when the next one comes up.. so a good long time partner is what i need.

I Would Greatly appreciate any help i can get in deciding on which Camera is the best for my usage.

Thanks in advance Tek Lovers!

You have quite a lot of options in this price range.
One thing to consider is would you like an affordable camera body so you can have a chance to buy multiple lenses or a more expensive camera body and only have enough in your budget for 1 lens.
I for one would choose the latter as you'd be able to purchase additional lenses later on.

Three options come to mind.

  • Fuji - Good cameras, fun and easy to use. affordable. Fujifilm x100t or Fuji x-t10.
  • Olympus - Quality body and affordable lenses. Olympus OM-D-E-M5 or OM-D-E-M10 markii
  • Sony - Bang for your buck and choice of lenses are getting larger. Sony alpha 6000 or Sony a7

When you say you are a bit confused with a lot of stuff, how so? Are you new to photography?

I hope I shone a bit of light over some kind of answer.

Thanks for the Reply.. and as for the needs, i also rather have a Good Camera Body with one lens so i can expand later on.. the thing is even though i have money.. it is controlled right now so i cannot just go and buy whatever i want, i need a solid reason for whatever i am choosing.. that is why i am having problems with the selection.

And Yes, i am quite new to Photography using my own Camera.. i have used dSLRs Before from friends.

I Am right now Confused with Sony 6000 and Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II

Sony is readily available to me and the only thing i have a problem with it is that it has no Stabilisation Build in.. and also that it doesnt have Touch to focus..
Olympus is a bit out of my reach right now and honestly i dont know if it is good for me or not. plus it is no where available where i live....

I was thinking of Buying the Sony Now and also buy a Focal reducer for an adapter for Canon to E-Mount so that i can use the Canon Lenses I Have lying around....(i have 2 Canon EF lenses which were abandoned)

Just In Case anyone was wondering,,, i did go with the a6000 in the end.. have bough it.. got a deal on it and also got 2 lenses with it so i guess it was good.

Its is great for video Capturing and something i noticed is that it gets hot very quickly.. that limits my video captures to about 30 minutes... os thats a thing.

All in all great Camera for Photography and Light Videography

Good. Well done. Being a Sony user myself, enjoy, play around and experiment. That is what Sony cameras are made for. :)

As for the overheating issue, yes Sony has had problems like this before. It is nt a big dealbreaker for me or other people I know but if you want to film an entire football match it might be a bit of a let down, but for the price it is still a good buy.

Enjoy and send us some of your new photographs.
