I know this community isn't really much of a Mac User base but how are you guys doing with your Mac systems? doesn't have to be Apple hardware or Hackintosh so how is your system doing?
I had it running in a VM (lack of a bare metal to sacrifice) and it worked realy badly =(
The AppleVM would feel like syrup whilst on the same host all other VMs would be like sprinters.
So I sadly never got the apple experience - all thats left is an itunes account XD
Still holding up well 2 years later with no hiccups. I occasionally have to restore an app or file from Time Machine, but it's all been my fault and being able to restore from the dedicated backup dataset on my Freenas server has been great. Battery life is slightly less than it was 2 years ago, but that's probably just me running a lot more stuff in the background like sophos, puush, syncthing, and my VPN app.
OS X VMs on an actual mac suck.. It's not just you. If you had hardware, I'd say run a hackintosh. I had good luck with that on my desktop before I bought my overpriced hardware from crApple.
Oh I did not run it on actual apple hardware ... it was inside virtual box XD
Even on apple hardware using VMware Fusion it's slow as balls. I just tried it for shits and giggles one day and came to the conclusion that it was only ever going to be for shits and giggles.
I have a feeling that we are going to see more posts with the release of macos sierra.
But in general I think OSX has rested on their laurels way too much.
Its gotten to the point where the OSX UI is just almost painful to use.
Why that? I honestly don't think it is that bad.
Its pretty bad.
The dock can not auto hide / intelihide / window dodge what ever you want to call it.
The full screen maximize and minimize is still an abomination.
And their implementation of window snap is absolutely horrible.
They do some things really well, and then other things should have been fixed by now.
My dock is hidden all the time. You are doing it wrong. ^^
Don't click on the thing in the corner, doubleclick the titlebar.
Download spectacle.
Yeah, but if I have a blank screen, I want my dock to appear.
Anything that requires more action from the end user to operate the computer is bad.
And yes, I could click on the title bar. Or apple could simply switch the function of the alt+green button function.
Lastly, I did not know about spectacle, but I was using something called better touch tool. Spectacle looks far far better, so I gotta give you some credit there.
Or you know apple could just implement this feature that people have been begging for for years and call it a day.
I see. Apple has to design the UI specifically around your behavior. Otherwise it is broken. Makes total sense. :D
Ohhhhhhhhhhh come on now.
Go look at the progression of modern UIs and you will see that OSX used to be way ahead of the curve, and then they rested on their laurels.
They have improved the look, but they have made very little progress in terms of functionality since leopard.
I'm not even disagreeing. But your examples are mostly either easily fixable by clicking on the right thing or through a little plugin.
I'm just today stepping up my VM game with a Mac OS Sierra VM since I was stuck on Yosemity before. I'm seeing some weird ass things in Mac OS VMs on Windows but it runs fine so I'm not complaining. I got the full resolution of my notebook working, everything works alright but when I open a folder in the Launchpad it starts shitting itself and stutters like crazy. Everything 3D is out of question but developing on it works.
