chair looks good, as for the desk... I have done 5 years of wood working through school and continue to build things now (so I hope I am somewhat qualified to comment of what you are building) if this is your first desk i woulds KISS keep it simple stupid and build a basic desk that has simple draws (if you want them) and no crazy complex structure. also i would do some research into what wood you want to make it out of.
That chair is pretty good, i wish i had some pics on the things i was sitting on.
My last chair i through out the window after lining back on it and it snaps 2.2 years old.
I am pretty good on the tools, just dont have access to good setup because i am located in Germany for the time being. so i cant start anything untill i find a good work shop.
i am currently running through ideas on google sketch. will start too post them when i have a bit more time to work on them.
my friend sent me a a link about a guys build saying how kool it was. (watched it.... face palmed for like 3 mins)

a few good things mostly shit. plus this guy spent 22k on this build WTF!!!!!!
i have been thinking about it for a while.
Something a lot more practical and sophisticated probs wait till x99 comes down in price and 4k gpus arent 1k each.
For people who sit in front of a computer all day as a job, this imo is a small expense that one might want to pay to prevent back issues later in life.
I built a desk top once made out some simple Cedar pickets from Home Depot. Three Rows of three, glued and clamped together overnight. Used a hand planner to smooth out the planks, a router to smooth out the edges. Drilled some 2x2's on the under side to sort of clamp the pickets together and add extra strength. Used Spar Urethane (Hellsman) to seal it and gave it to my dad.
One cool simple idea would be to find an old decent shape door as a table top (I found one on Craigslist) some sawhorses as the legs and then a sheet of plexi-glass cut to size to sit atop the door so you can have a nice solid flat plane as the table top. It was nothing extravagant but fit the bill quite nicely.
