I occasionally write short stories, but I rarely get any feedback so I thought I should post them here.
sorry if this is the wrong section (since it is labeled books, and there are just short stroeis) but I felt it was most relevant. I'd be intyerested in what you think about them, they might contain a few mistakes from time to time, as most of them are unedited.
Story one: darkness (longest, but has been edited the most)
A sudden noise, in the dark abyss sent a shock of white hot fear throughout my body, electric shock waves reverberating through me, amplified by 10, 100, 1000 times, as I jerked upright. My eyes flicker around the room, breathing ragged and rapid. They drift over the corner. In the dark, I can just make out something faint, its form shifting like a black wisp of death. The embodiment of suffering itself. Terrible, terrible feelings flood my brain , my whole body feels as if it has been set ablaze, paralyzed by fear and pain, as I look upon this being that I can only describe as darkness in its most horrible form
This being seemed to call to me. I felt it's tendrils of hatred tugging deep into my soul, searching, probing, for everything that made me human, ripping out my happiness, the good memories that made me who I am. It seems to take a twisted delight in exposing the raw primal feelings we all lock deep down inside us, only to bring them to the surface. I felt my consciousness falter and flutter like a leaf in the wind, until the it had spiraled into a freezing pool of sorrow and despair, quenching the flames in my veins. My vision faded to blackness.
I open my eyes. Piercing white is all that I can see. Despite its brightness, it does not hurt, it only fills my body with a warm sense of happiness. I feel oddly at peace in this place. Jumping to my feet, my mind clears even more, and I realize I’m in some kind of limbo, a seemingly endless world of white.
Suddenly, a violent slash of black fills my vision; cracks of darkness splinter along the walls, cracking along crystalline plains through the floor. I look around, a jet black liquid seeping like tar through the cracks ,defying gravity, floating up and up, towards the ceiling that doesn't seem to exist. The room begins to darken becoming more of a gray hue, laughter echoes around the room reverberating like the loud claps of thunder on a silent night, piercing my soul.
I close my eyes trying to block it all out, feeling that familiar tugging deep down in my soul, once again. This time, I am prepared. I ball my hands into fists, splay my fingers, drawing on every emotion within my mind, allowing my love, my joy, my happiness, every feeling that makes a human a human, to flow through me, through my hands, and into my finger tips. I look up sharply, and slow my breath. I will not along this….THING, to take away who I am. Power flows through my body. I walk, slowly, towards the creature, every step cracking the floor, crystalline shards arising and reflecting distorted forms of me. The liquid rising from the crack suddenly spirals and twists, becoming thousands of different copies of me.........yet not me. An aura of eerie darkness surrounds the army in front of me.
Suddenly I fall through seemingly nothing, flying through the air at a massive speed, not knowing where the ground is, I spin around and look up, the army of clones just floating there, becoming smaller and smaller every second.
They vanish, a vortex of shadows emanates from where they stood, hitting me with the force of a thousand storms. I am flung Through the air even more. one materialises next to me, flowing through the air, grins as he performs his next motion, and he twists, in mid flight, and jerks his arm just slightly enough for me to know what he is about to do. A slash of darkness flashes down on where I should have been. I pat my hand on my side, find that it is there, and unsheathe my sword.
He recklessly charges at me, running through the air. I tug at my soul, turning it into a physical entity and flowing it around my body, landing on my feet suddenly. I flawlessly spin my sword, a solid black Damascus steel blade mottled with streaks of white, light as a feather. Arcs of blue lightning flutter across my hand and through the blade as I feel the shockwaves of power flow through the boundaries of this world.
He vanishes. I close my eyes, throwing out my consciousness, beyond my mind and through the dimension, scanning the entire universe for a just a tiny flicker of shadow. I twist, sparks fly, I bring my sword around again and slash, catching him as he materialises. shifting space and time I throw energy through my sword, a vast arc of white, bright as the sun hits him, sending him flying, I run forwards much faster than a should be possible, slashing wildly, our swords clash again. I slash again and again, metal hitting metal every time, frustration building up inside me, making my attacks more and more random, he vanishes and reappears behind me. I de-materialise the sword into a shower of splintered crystal, directing them on my clone as he appears behind me, slashing him. I feel a burning in my chest, I look down, His sword had pierced my heart...... 2 more appear next to him, thrusting their swords through my chest
I fall to the ground, pushing the swords further through me. White hot pain shooting along my nerves. He walks to me slowly, bringing his sword above his head, Now I get a good look in his face, his hair a stark grey, eyes as deep and dark as the void of space, irises as colourful as the galaxies, seeming to look deep into my soul. He brings his sword down, I feel time slow and a voice reverberates around my head and a vast tunnel of blackness encompasses my vision. “embrace the shadows”..... I snap back, light flooding my eyes, feel energy gather and build up, exploding outwards I yell, blue flames encase me. I swing my arm, the flames swirl into my fist, becoming the shape of a broadsword, a crystal blue colour. I feel amazingly strong, like I can do anything, I grin at the clone, A look of stricken panic flits across his mind, before turning into a grin. He runs at me, then jumps, hurtling through the air at me, I merely walk forward slowly and slash across him as he swings, splitting his sword in half and leaving a gash across him. He vanishes.
I sense him behind me, and turn to face him, arcing my blade into his, Jet black sparks fly and we jump backwards, tugging at the strings of my soul, accelerating our flight through the air. I learn quickly to master the boundaries, and reverse my fall, suddenly shooting forwards with the speed and precision of a fighter jet. A flash of white. I’m the one in control now. I bring my sword up, my mind clears. I feel at peace again, a look of shock and defeat once again crosses his face as I slash across his chest, black blood painting the floor an onyx hue.
I slow our falls, bringing us to a stop. As he skids across the floor on his back, black blood dripping from the deep gash in his skin. 5 more appear behind me, I spin, shattering their blades too, they look shocked, and disappear into a black mist. Suddenly, thousands of them appear, I simple grin, and propel myself forwards like a fighter jet, swinging my sword through them all faster than they can react, sword clashing against sword as I fly through the air, taking them out one by one flawlessly, its over in seconds, thousands of them fall. I walk back slowly to the first one and point my blade at his neck, look into his eyes; then throw my blade to the ground
Shock, once again flits across his face, yet quickly turns to anger, he shouts something, yet words do not come out. Darkness has no power here now. I grab his hand, lift him to his feet and draw him into my embrace. I feel the darkness seep out of his. No, my. Soul and my vision fades to white
I awake once again, in my bed, scanning the corner of my room I see nothing. Grinning I tug once again at the barriers to my soul, and arcs of blue lightning dance across my skin, throwing the room into a sky blue light...........
Embrace your darkness. Yet do not let it consume you, for it is both your greatest strength, and your greatest weakness, unless you have the spirit to contain it.
story 2: The tree of life (most recent, not edited at all, pretty short)
I was walking through a dark void, my body acting on instinct, I felt like I had been drugged and was slowly waking up, my body acting before my brain, a strange sense of lag between the two. Eventually I realised that there was nothing here, and then a few moment later a light snow began to fall, my breath became a fine mist. The snow fell upon an invisible path before me, it fluttered softly around me. I wondered why this room was so dark, and cold, I wished for warmth and light. I snapped my fingers and a blue fire curled around my fingers for a moment, filling my body with warmth, and around me, picture frames were thrown into view. Moments of my life from childhood, ones I thought long forgotten that sent a slight tingle of joy down my spine as I set my sights on them, I felt my face contort into a grin. But I kept walking, and the room faded from a dark black, slowly becoming brighter.
I stepped slowly on, patterns forming on the walls upon which the frames hung, branching off like some kind of plant, elegant swirls of many colours adorned the walls, becoming darker as I saw some of the worse moments of my life, and brighter at those that meant the most, I realised this was a tree of life. MY tree of life. And so I walked on, intrigued by this as I walked on for what seemed an infinity, through my life, watching as if from the outside, viewed from these frames that hung upon the walls of this void. As I approached the end the walls became a pure white, and I saw my final moments, my last breath, surrounded by my family, and so the long elegant stem of my tree came to bloom, flowers blossomed along my wall, further than I could see, beautiful flowers so complex I cannot describe, they were all my favourite colours, blue, yellow and green, and many others. They seemed to glow with vitality, even as they approached the end. And so I realised, I was at peace, I had reached the end, and I had not given up, my life had not been a waste. And now, after I had experienced it one more time, I knew that now I must move on. And so I approached the end of the hall, the walls now a blazing white.
I saw myself standing there, arms folded, held up by his right leg pressed against the void. He looked up, eyes a shimmering blue, and smiled. He seemed ageless, I couldn’t tell from which point in my life he was. “So, old man. You ready to move on”? I nodded slowly and returned with a grin of my own. And so he tapped the wall in front. A circle appeared edges glowing blue, my tree emblazoned on it. I pushed on the tree and it swung open, and gazed upon what was inside. I realised, no one lives forever, but what goes on afterwards, that is of your choosing. And with that, I stepped through the gate, into my world. Looking back into the face of myself for a second, he turned, and walked back down my path, I heard him mutter “you shall live on in the hearts and minds of others”. And then the door swung slowly shut, and everything faded from view.....
I
hope you enjoy them!
