Hello everyone I recently finalized my gaming PC with a brand new FX-8350 and when I went to overclock it I was sorely surprised by the results. I am able to get this bad boy all the way to 4.5GHz on 1.375V because at 1.4V my NB gets critically hot and shuts my PC down. even at 1.375V it seems to overheat under load. My framerates are okay in most games (60FPS mostly in bf3 with some dips when there are a lot of players on screen or during epic air battles) But really I got this CPU to join the 5GHz club with all my bros. D: I will post all my computer stats underneath and try to give as much detail as I can, Im hoping there is something I am missing and wont have to buy a new MB to overclock my CPU
PC SPECS:
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 REV1.1
FX-8350 4.5GHz with a Corsair H40 waterblock
G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB 2x4GB 1600MHz (9.9.9.24)
Antek 850W Modular PSU
Sapphire HD7950 Dual-X 3GB GPU
yes thats a well known problem with that gigabyte board, at overclocking the northbridge chip, vrm´s and mosfets get extremely hot, that things get unstable. its a well known issue with gigabyte boards, the UD5 has the same problems.
Thats why im not a big fan of gigabyte am3+ boards at all.
i would recommend to return the motherboard, and buy a Asus Sabertooth R2.0
Sadly its too late for a return, however I will be sure to pickup a sabertooth in a paycheck or two. Thanks for the advice and too bad Gigabyte didnt work out how I expected, next time I will do more research.
yeah i know its realy sadd from gigabyte, they keep on making revisions of the board, and still cant fix the issues. on stock speeds the board runns fine, but at overclocking the power delivery of the board just suck.
Asus has much better boards, even the Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 with only a 6+2 powerphase and digi vrm, is a better board then those gigabyte boards. i make a list from boards i personaly recommend.
- Asus crosshair V Formula Z 8+2 powerphase digi vrm.
- Asus Sabertooth 990FX GEN3 8+2 powerphase digi vrm (pci-e 3.0)
- Asus Sabertooth 990Fx R2.0 8+2 powerphase digi vrm
- Asrock 990Fx Extreme 9 12+2 powerphase digi vrm
- Asus M5A99Fx pro R2.0 6+2 powerphase digi vrm.
good luck choosing ☺
grtz Angel ☺
