What would be better, 1 980ti or 2 390s in crossfire?
depends.
What do you mean better?
A higher FPS or a better experience all around?
fps
not 390x
They are basically the same.
But here is a 290 crossfire review http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r9_290_crossfire_review_benchmarks.html
I don't think anyones has done benchmarks for the 390. But that is inbetween the 290 and 390x...
Please note you'll also be getting much higher power consumption and heat output. Game compatibility can be a problem as well. FreeSync also has issues with crossfire. Frame times are generally all over the place as well.
SLI or Crossfire they both have issues. I've always gone with a single powerful card myself. Less hassle.
Wait for some DX12 stuff and consider just getting a fury, otherwise 980ti.
Although going with AMD you save money on their adaptive sync technology.
I'm not a fanboy either way, I look for the best value for my $$, with the recent price drops on the 980's not sure the Fury would be worth it for a higher cost.
Just my humble opinion.
in terms of fps numbers, a 390 crossfire will be better.
But there are some pro´s and con´s ofc.
The two 390s would be better but you have to take into account the heat, power consumption and crossfire issues. I had two 970s but I'm enjoying having one 980ti much better. Less issues same power.
Difference from a quick google search is 60-70 bucks, so a bit of a gap, but the 980 only really keeps up with the Fury when it's overclocked, at least from logan's testing.
Couple that with the added cost of G-sync and the numbers even out, plus DX12 and all.
Although if you want to go on the super high end the 980ti is still the way to go.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions was just offering mine.
Everyone going back and forth about DX12 is very comical to me as well. We have two benchmarks now and all it shows is that right now the AMD cards get more of a benefit, but that benefit still just puts the AMD cards on par with Nvidia. Does everyone think Nvidia is just going to stop going to work because of DX12?
As for the super high end, I agree that's why I sold my Fury and went with a 980 Ti.
The AMD cards naturally have more horse power than Nvidia cards, just check TFLOP numbers
980Ti's 5.63 TFLOPS vs a Fury's 7.20 TFLOPS
When DX11 is bogging both cards down and Nvidia has a larger budget for their driver team... And they have a larger market share for developer cooperation, DX11 won't bog Nvidia down nearly as much.
Where right this minute can I buy a game where any of that makes a difference?
You can't. People are arguing back and forth about what if's and it's hilarious. Raw horsepower, ok. I will use a car analogy since you took it there. You can have all the power in the world, but if you can't get that power to the ground then you're just spinning your wheels making smoke.
The only answer AMD has for Nvidia right now is the R9 390 over the GTX 970.
No brand loyalty on my end, I look for the best product for my $$ for what I want to accomplish. Everyone should just buy whatever the best hardware they can afford is for the job they need.
I would have bought a Fury X over the 980 Ti, but it would have been a waste. I really wanted to, if AMD flops it's not good for us as consumers, but they need to get it together. Competition is a good thing we need it.
Actually AMD also owns the lower end of the spectrum. The 380 is better than the 960, and I believe the 370 is better than the 950. The Fury is awkwardly placed... I'd suspect it to jump down to $500 soon and the X to jump to $600 considering the lack of competition. Pretty soon (a year or so) the Fury will become the new 290. That's when Nvidia will finally have competition. Do people paying over $400 on a card actually care for the price? I never understood why people would seep so much into a tool. Is the difference between 1440p vs 4K worth the price jump at this point? Hell no...
@Zippy_Parmesian Not everyone makes purchases with your exact point of view remember that.
I spent more than $400 and was still researching like crazy, so yes to me the price did matter. More so what was I getting for X amount of $$. Maybe I'm the exception (I doubt it).
If you're willing to spend 600 bucks on two 390s or 500 bucks on 980. Just grab the R9 Fury, you get all the HBM goodness, it beats the 980 and an overall better experience than crossfire
whats the difference between the r9 fury and the fury X is it just the cooler
