I am curious as to what kind of resolution and graphics a 980ti can do on a multi monitor setup. I am getting a monitor very soon and am trying to figure out what monitor(s) to get and what gpu to get for the monitor(s). I would like to run 1 or 2 monitors at 1440p with all settings maxed out and get high fps. I am thinking about getting 1-2 34" ultrawide 100hz 1440p gysnc or 1-2 27" 1440p 144hz gsync monitors. I was wondering if a single 980ti would be able to do a 2 monitor setup(which ever I choose of my 2 options) with maxing everything out and getting high fps. Thanks for the help.
A 980 ti can max settings on a 1440p ultrawide and maintain 60fps+ in 9 out of 10 of the newest and best games. With a single 1440p 144hz panel your going to be sitting pretty with high fps in every game and g-sync just perfecting the experience. The 980 ti is a very smart choice for either setup.
Triple 1080s should be fine seeing as it's pretty damn good at 4k even, in SLI even better.
Thanks for the info. Would a single 980ti be able to do 2-34" ultrawide 100hz 1440p gysnc or 2-27" 144hz 1440p gsync monitors with max settings and high fps? I am thinking about getting 2-27" or 1-34" ultrawide
Im looking to get out of 1080p gaming. I have a 770 4gb and im trying to sell it so I can upgrade. I do not have a monitor right now, I am using a 1080p 120hz samsung tv. So i am looking at 1440p monitors
For one, it is really weird to have 2 monitors and be gaming on both. You really want one or three for gaming. You can have one for gaming and one for use as a forum monitor or a pandora tab or something on those lines, but outputting your game to 2 screens and splitting the image across them is a pretty bad experience imo. My recommendation would be a 1440p ultrawide as a gaming/main monitor, and a normal 1440p monitor as an auxiliary monitor that you don't use for the game. A single 980 ti isn't going to be able to max settings across 2 1440p monitors either.
@thecaveman ok thank you for the information. I guess I will be getting one monitor then until I can get another 980ti so I can do a 3 monitor setup. I don't think I can spend any more money than I was planning on right now. Because I have to buy the 980ti and the monitor still. Will 2 980ti's do the job with 3 1440p monitors(ultrawide or 16:9)? I want to be able to max everything and maintain high fps. It seems like I need 980ti per monitor.
Triple 1440p is just not viable right now. Theoretically, 3 980 ti's could push it but, no game makers optimized for 3 cards so this is not viable either. Stutter and sometimes lower fps can be the impact of adding a third card in a lot of games.
@thecaveman Thank you for the information! Will a single 980ti be able to max everything out at 1440p 144hz(16:9) for a long time into the future? what about ultrawide?
Think of it this way. 3 1440p monitors is pretty much more then 5k. Very hard to drive. Would be pretty badass though. I think 1440p is the way to be for the next couple years once more GPUs can run 4k and such with ease.
@kevindavid3 ya that is true. I am going 1440p instead of 4k because I want to wait till 4k is perfected. I just want to be able to buy what I will need now for 1440p now without needing to upgrade until I make the switch to 4k.
I'm not even sure when 4k will be standard. Could be years really. I mean GPUs are eating there but most developers won't be taking advantage of it for a long time. Maybe never. Mostly what I mean is when you play a 4k game the UI is super super tiny and very hard to look at in a lot of games. Really it's consoles that is holding it back.
@kevindavid3 Ya I will get 4k when its common and you get high refresh rate and gsync etc.
Man wouldn't that be epic! I'm more hoping that 21:9 becomes the next new thing and stays for good.
@kevindavid3 im sure 21:9 will get maxed out within the next year and will stay
Just my experience but a single 980Ti at 3440x1440 will not run all games at max settings and maintain a 60fps. 2560x1440 is usually able to run 70-90 with max settings in just about all games and will be able to for some time.
Having G-Sync on a monitor I assume would let you run most game at max with 45-60 fps at 3440x1440 and still play smoothly. I've not had the pleasure of trying G-Sync yet though.
On my A399U I've played 2560x1440 at the full 39.5" with max settings and then 3440x1440 with a few options set lower to maintain a minimum 60 fps. Guess which mode I prefer ..... well it's the pseudo 33.5" 21:9 screen I end up with sat in the middle of the monitor.
For me it's a very comfortable size filling most of my useful vision without feeling "too close to the action" like I do with a 2560x1440 16:9 image stretched to 39.5"
I now find 16:9 monitors very square for gaming and much prefer the 21:9 aspect ratio. I think you've got to try it first to appreciate the more natural dimension and much easier to drive than say 3 16:9 monitors.
@bimbleuk thank you for the information. I hope a single 980ti will be able to run 3440x1440 max settings with all current games and for a long time in the future. Or else i will be sending it back and getting my money back because its so damn expensive.
