900D SLI Titan 3970X Watercooling Build

Hey, so I have recently came into some money from my last post on this section of the forum and I now looking to build a fully watercooled computer system capable of running games maxed out @ 1600p+(7680x1600), I will also be doing a lot of 3D rendering and modelling.

I want to be able to get the most out of the system I am looking to build so I will be wanting to overclock all the components heavily, this is why I want to build a fully watercooled system in a 900D

There is no budget but I want to make sure I am paying for quality watercooling kit.

I have all the components sorted I just need recommendations for all the watercooling parts, it also must be as quiet as possible. Again I will say that there is no limit on the budget.

I am from New York so the parts will need to be able to be shipped straight to my home.

If anyone would like to know the full specs, here they are:

  • 1200w modular platinium psu
  • 3970X(heavily overclocked)
  • AsRock Fatal1ty X79 Champion Motherboard(wanting watercooled vrms etc)
  • 128gb ram(also must be watercooled
  • 4xhyper3k 480gb in raid 10
  • 2 GTX Titans in sli
  • 900D corsair case
  • 4x4tb hdd in raid 10
  • 3x 2560x1600p monitors
  • 2x2tb raid 1 for backups
  • Win 8 professional

Any help with this system will be very much appreciated!!!

I sadly can't give much advice on watercooling, and I'm just here to say I'm extremely jealous of your build. Good luck with watercooling!

I see one small problem with your build, you are want to max out the ram on your mobo, but the problem is thatthe mob has 8 ram slots, and with desktop DDR3 ram there are no 16GB stick, which is what you would need to have 128GB,you can find that size in server ram,but idk if that mobo would support server ram.

Good luck on your build!

Yep, the max supported RAM on that mobo is 64gb's so you can't get 128gb :p

If you want 128GB of RAM, you will need the MSI Big Bang X79, and 16GB ECC DIMMs, which are hard to come by, and utterly pointless. 16GB is overkill, so it's not like 64GB is cutting corners.

This way sound stupid, but will 1200w even be enough for this? I know you're amazing with PSU's and I know those titan's are power hungry so, would it be enough?

if you're rendering then you'll want duall xeon 8 cores that will outperform a overclocked 3970x, also pointless to raid a ssd

whey would you even be using data at that point

it could handle a few more

1200W is way more than enough for two Titans. 750W would be perfect, but being on X79, and having This much money, 1200W will let him get another Titan or two.

For water cooling, Check out these vids from Linus. They go though how to water cool your whole system, recomended equipment and all sorts of things.

One thing that you might want to think about is the swiftech H220, It is an awesome cooler that would probably serve your needs well (obviously with modifications as it able to be taken apart), especially if you are new to Water Cooling. Anyway, links are below, good luck, and I wish I could get that system.

the two last youtube links on there were the same. xD

For watercooling, I would get a 480mm radiator, slim, and a 360mm radiator, fat. That will be way more than enough for dual Titans and a 3970X, both overclocked. I would stick to Scythe Gentle Typhoons 1450 RPMs, because they are both fantastic in the SP department, and great looking. They are just great fans.

For the CPU block, get the Koolance 380i. Best thermally performing CPU block on the market.

As for the Titans, you can use pretty much any block. I'm a fan of Heatkiller and Koolance, but EK has some great ones as well.

Tubing is pretty straight forward; get what size your fittings are. You can't use acrylic tube with standard fittings, etc., etc. I recommend Primochill Advanced LRT and Bitspower Black Sparkle fittings, but really any compression fittings and good, plasticiser-free tubing will work.

Side note, I would drop the 4TB HDDs and Hyper 3Ks and just get 4x 960GB Crucial SSDs in RAID 5. Consider the Rampage IV Formula and/or Extreme, as well.

heres how it should go

  1. SSD
  2. Soundcard
  3. titan 1 slot
  4. Titan Ocupado
  5. Titan 2 slot
  6. Titan Ocupado
  7. Titan 3
  8. Titan Ocupado
  9. USB bracket
  10. Serial bracket

btw two 2.2Ghz 8 core xeons beat a 4.8Ghz 3970x and these are 3.1Ghz

64GB 2133 CAS 9 should hold you over

1.2TB SSD but the best part is that it has like 260,000 IOPS and 2000MB/s, high end sata SSDs have like 100,000 IOPS and 550MB/s

3 titans should drive 3 monitors, though I'm pretty sure quadros would be better for rendering

2 4TB 128MB cache HDDs for either raid 1 or raid 0, with Heat sinks that both reduce temps and noise greatly

the MoBo has 6 fan headers and the 2 fan controllers have 10 total, so you might needs some splitters if you have over 16 fans in the case

Imperator is a great mouse, I use it and its awesome

Asus wifi with the new AC standard and pretty high transfer rates

MX-4 is THE best thermal paste out there, I'd apply it to northbridge, though I warn you it likes toadherethings so make sure you do a good paste job the first time, brennandriddell might have some better suggestions if you don't like the sound of that, no clue on water cooling, water cooling ram seems PRETTY pointless to me

better hope no one steals your computer that cost more than most peoples car, you did say there wasn't a budget

Holy shit. That's all I can say.

and this is why you must ALWAYs give Giga a budget, because if you don't, I assume you are bill gates, there is a SSD that is faster but I believe it takes two slots so you'd have to sacrefice you dedicated sound card but you get like 6,700MB/s and 1,300,000 read IOPS and around 10 TB of space

Why not switch the motherboard to:

And then get two of these:

pretty sure he won't need more than 64GB for 3D modeling, and its limited to 1600 instead of 2133
