So I am planning on buying more ram on cyber Monday and T cant decide whether I should get another 4GB stick or should I get a dual channel kit of two 8GB sticks at 1600Mhz and get rid of my 4GB stick. I want to be able to play all the new games that come out for the next couple of years and i am planning on getting a GTX 970 4GB card in the spring.
If you're only playing games, you should only need to add another 4GB stick. Just make sure that the timings and frequencies are similar, or else you may have some trouble with system instabilities.
8GB of RAM seems to be the consensus on a good amount for gaming. However RAM hungry tasks like video editing will definitely see a boost in performance by getting 16GB.
If the prices are very similar when you go to purchase I would personally purchase 16GB of RAM, however this being said I love to multitask and constantly have 15-50 tabs open along with having several other programs idling in the background. Looking at prices however I heavily doubt that 16GB and a 4GB will be anywhere close in price.
Ultimately it is all up to you need and what your budget will allow. Hopefully I was able to help, and if anyone would like to expound on anything I went over add something I missed please go right ahead. Best wishes with your rig man!
I have $190 to spend on my computer and i need a new mouse and i was planning on getting the razer deathadder if it is on sale and then the rest i can spend on ram so i have enough for 16GB of ram and then i can sell that 4gb stick on ebay or something. I am also a multitasking hog i have about the same amount of tabs open as Regulus and i like to have teamspeak open while playing a game like battlefiled 4 or when i am rendering stuff in Mya for school.
