So I'm doing a system upgrade, I mostly game on my PC right now. How ever I'm hoping to record gameplay in future, along with video editting of that gameplay.
I would like to know, for a gaming computer...
Would 8gb (2400mhz - 2x4) be best, or 16gb (1886 - 2x8)
1866MHz is a nice speed, but do you really need 16GB of RAM. I would go with 12GB 2100MHz if you fell you need more then 8 GB (But if you are going to be editing you should go with 16GB). I am happy with my 8GB (even though it is only clocked @ 665MHz...)
If you plan to do the video editing (especially if it's 1920x1080 video) take the 16 GB. If you only plan to do gaming then take the 8 GB. The speed won't make the biggest difference in the world realisticly since they're both high speeds already. I guess you just need to decide whether or not you'll be seriously doing the video editing. Either way, you can't make a bad choice here, both kits are good choices.
Unless you are using an igpu/apu, the performace increase from overclocked memory is very small. The extra ram for video editing would be more important.
If you're doing a lot of editing then go with the 16GB kit. If not then go for the 8GB kit.
Adding more and more RAM to your system isn't going to speed it up unless you're actually using it. The only time your computer will start to slow down due to RAM is when you run out of RAM space to store things on, which means you're running a lot of RAM intensive applications at the same time.
Most people aren't going to use more than 6GB of RAM at any given time, so an 8GB kit is usually more than sufficient anyway. Video editing tends to be more RAM intensive though, so the extra RAM might help, espeically if you're going to have games or other things running in the background. The difference in RAM speed really isn't noticeable unless you're running benchmarks.
well I had the foresight to buy same manufacturer, model, latency, voltage, speed, timings etc... imo it was worth the risk as I could have easily returned the extra kit :)
GO WITH THE 16GB.. 1866 will be fine for editing/rendering and gaming and less worry abt having to upgd the ram sooner than you need to (plus if you have 2 dimm slots left to fill you can go up to 32gb later on). UNBIASED SUGGESTION
