I am planning building a workstation-pc for 3D rendering (dual-socket with Xeons)
My question: will the performance-gain of 2x Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3, 10x 2.30GHz - Turbo 3Ghz (1030 EUR / CPU) justify the significant higher price in comparison to 2x Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3, 8x 2.40GHz - Turbo 3.2 Ghz (600 EUR / CPU)?
do you even need 2 xeons for just rendering?
Renderings can take 12+ hours to finish. Even lowering times by 10% is a lot of time saved.
So honestly, yeah. It really helps.
yes offcourse but i dont think that a 10 core xeon will be much benefit over the 8 core ones.
But its allot depending on what you render offcourse. And offcourse which software you use to render on.
AVX2 instruction set on the new haswell cpu´s realy benefits in rendering, however the only problem is, that not much rendering application using it atm.
There wont be much difference between an 8 core setup and a 10 core setup, no. I was just responding to your initial comment which was if two xeons were needed.
I mean considering your multiplying out everything so 4 more cores and 8 logical threads it could be worth it. If he is doing 12hr long renders it might be something worth considering. 8 threads is a lot of processing power
Yeah, but not worth 400 more dollars each.
agree probably not worth the extra $$
