I know this isn't a help forum, just seemed appropriate on a hardware and gaming enthusiast website.
Basiclly, I put in my new XFX 8800GT xxx 256mb alpha dog edition, installed the drivers, etc.
When I start up my pc, it says the card is running on VGA Bios (presumeblly the intergrated graphics). In-game, on CSS for example, on an empty server, I get about 50 fps. On servers with more than ten people in, it goes down to about 10 fps. Any more players and its unbearable. I tried disabling VGA in the BIOS, but their terrible Packard Bell, so I could do nothing. Maybe it might not even be VGA to blame, I really dont know. My other guess is that it may be my rubbish mother board (I'm posting my PC specs below) that can't handle it. Some say I need a motherboard with a PCIE 2.0 slot. At the moment, I really dont know
Could you help me out? (do you know what it's like not to be able to play TF2 for 4 months?)
My Specs:
XFX 8800GT xxx 256mb alpha dog edition
GA-8I915PM Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 Proccessor 3GHz
1GB DDR1 (I know, bad RAM)
Sorry to say this, but it's time for an upgrade.
why would you buy the 256mb version....
im with blooddrunk, and upddate, why would you buy the 256mb version? and also, it probably is time for an upgrade. have you tried disabling integrated graphics in the bios and enabling pci?
I have tried disabling the intergrated graphics in the bios, but with no success, because the bios are quite bad. I got the 256mb version because TigerDirect convinced me it was the (quote) "most extreme" version.
So its a new motherboard I need? What would you recommend, I need something that wouldn't cost too much either. (under £100)
Thanks for the quick replies by the way.
your cpu is bottlenecking and your ram is also bottlenecking so you prolly need a new Mobo cos this one doesnt support core 2/athlon X2 cpus
So you will need a upgrade but you can easily do a upgrade and stay under the 120 pounds i think.
If you need help with a upgrade kit just ask me i can prolly help you.
Summthin like this (its 132 GBP but its really worth the money believe me)
MSI K9N SLI-F 80 Dollars
OCZ reaper HPC edition (really good ram which you can oc to 1066 mhz with ease) 4gb for 97 dollar.
AMD athlon X2 5400+ 2.8 ghz 87 dollars.
If this all is to expensive go to 2 gb of ram and i think you will get around 110 GBP or summthin like that.
but if you oc the cpu to 3 gigs and the Ram to like 1066 mhz this is a pretty good gamin system.
But could you explain why you got the 256 mb 8800GT while the 9600GT is like the same price if it isnt cheaper?
edit:ram is 800Mhz

il say go for the ATI hd 3870 its about the same price but you get 512 mb of gddr4 and it will give you better performance and you can overclock the heck out of this card.
from core speed 775 i overclocked it to 860mhz
and form the memory clocked from 2250mhz to 2360 mhz which about 82.4GB's
thats some seroius horsepower
the ati cards have less prob so got with that
Cheers ConfuSe, that really helped. Just wondering though, I'm not really interested in SLI so would I be better off with a Single Pcie version (like the MSI K9N Neo-F)?
nobody really NEEDS sli, which is why you shouldent go for it, because non sli boards can be much cheaper. anyways, the board that confuse recommended, while very very cheap, is bad and lame. i dont really know much about amd socket boards, but your better off going with a board with one pci-e slot instead of 2 for 80 dollars, then you know your getting a quality board
