7970CF v.s. Gtx 980

I'm sure they're plenty of these threads, but like to read updated options about this GPU's.

Have 7970's atm, but want to go G-sync in the future.
Main concern is will I lose FPS when upgrading to a single GTX 980?
Tossed between Asus matrix 980 or evga hybrid 980. Only 6c different under load on temps and both OC around 1500MhZ no issues.

Setup

3930k 4.3GHZ
Corsair 2400MHZ 16GB
Corsair 240GT SSD
Asus Rampage IV
Acer 1440p 60HZ 27 inch

Thanks

The 980 overclocked is faster AFAIK , but not that much faster.
Its a better option because you wont have any cfx issues and more VRAM.
The 980 doesnt depend on scaling to deliver performance.

Pretty much a toss up between the two. Some games the 980 is faster while some the 280Xs (7970s) are faster.

In all honesty I'd stick with what you have. I don't see GSync as a killer feature TBH. Not worth the price of upgrading. Plus, AMD's new stuff is dropping soon and they have FreeSync.

It is your call though.

I agree with @DerKrieger. I think that it would be worth the wait until the new AMD cards come out. Then you can make a more sound decision.

If you are set on getting g-sync for some reason I would wait until you are going to buy the g-sync monitor to buy the card. I say this since that wont be much of an upgrade and by the time you are ready to buy the monitor, the price of the card might drop, something better might be out and you may choose to go freesync instead.

You wouldn't really be losing fps since the cfx 7970's are about as fast as a single 980. Also on the free sync point, it is worth noting that free sync does not CURRENTLY work with crossfire.
