7970>670
7970=/=680
but wouldn't the extra vram help alot in surround?
Not particularly, you will also get better memory performance from the 384-Bit bus that the 7970 carries vs the 256-Bit of the 670/680.
7970. With the newerest drivers it seems to beat a 670 in most games and it is cheaper. The 3gig a VRAM only makes a difference when running things like Eyefinity or massive textures - ie 4K res Skyrim texture mods.
^ I would be running eyefinity though...
If you are running Eyefinity than HD 7970 hands down. I am running 3 27" 120hz monitors.
In saying that I have two 7970's and in newer games like Hitman Absolution and Crysis 3 the extra card has been needed if you want 60FPS plus all teh DX11 goodness.
7970
+1 for the 7970, its matches or beats GTX 680's so the GTX 670 is a whole step down from it in terms of performance.
Alright well I guess I'm going with the 7970! Which one d'you guys recommend trying to stay under $475...

I think this is what I'm going to do http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/FLRW
Looks good to me. You are going to LOVE eyefinity!
Remember those Asus cards are triple slot so they will be right on top of each other. On my X58 motherboard there is not enough of a gap to do this (only two slot space) so make sure there is 3 slot for you.
Look at the gigabyte 7970 with the windforce cooler. Just as quiet. Overclocks like a beast and only takes 2 slots.
If I was gonna get a 7970, I'd get the ASUS Direct CUII version, like the one Logan reviewed the other day .
I have the Sapphire Dual X 7970 and its brilliant for one of the lower priced 7970s. Overclocked it to 1025mhz/1550mhz and its brilliant and this runs at 60 max under load. Expect to see higher temps though as the room I have my PC in is like a fridge.
This is on sale for $389.99 should I buy? http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=67172&vpn=FX797ATDFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1302
Yes! That is a great deal :)
Or this one:

If you get a dual slot card (like the XFX and GB) then there will be better airflow to the top card unlike the ASUS Direct CUII. If you got the Asus it will run higher fan speeds to keep cool making it a bit louder because of the lack of gap between it and the bottom card.
I have two of the gigabytes. I recommend it over the XFX card BUT the XFX is still really good and looks sexy. The Gigabyte one though will run even cooler and overclock better. Hey look 3 fans! lol. :D
